I'll pay for you to got to Nicaragua and ask the Honduran embassy to help you get to any of the Bay Islands. Heck, just to Ceiba.

Except that that is not what the OP is asking:

I wouldn't have much of a problem getting out of SPS, but getting into SPS is a nightmare...it will cost me and my teen daughter each $340 for a one-way ticket from Managua to San Pedro Sula...that's almost $700!!!!!!!! For that priice I could buy 2 sets of r/t tickets back to Cnetral America from our home state, Florida, for a second vacation!!!

For that price I can fly from San Jose, Costa Rica back on Spirit in a big comfy leather seat, 1st class.!!!!

I was wondering if there is any way you all can get creative and come up with an alternate plan???

Next thing you know you will suggest that the travelers ask Chavez to help get them into Honduras

It would still be a better suggestion than the ones you've had so far. Actually, I take that back, as you have yet to offer one single helpful suggestion to the OP's request for help.

Very constructive indeed, especially from someone who portrays himself as being someone with "on the ground experience."

With that kind of help, I'd take a novice's advice over yours any day of the week.

It appears that you may be able to get at least some of your money back by contacting TACA via their website: Taca.com - Online Refunds

I'm a little confused also, are you still trying to get to SPS and on to Roatan? In your original post you mentioned cancelling and going to Corn Island.

TACA has a flight out of Roatan to MIA, it's possible you could apply your ticket towards that. There's also a couple of departures out of SPS. If you could get to LCE, you could take the later ferry to Roatan most likely. It's $31pp. for first class. (with A/C) Or maybe the ferry both ways and the Hedman Alas bus back to SPS - my guess would be they're both still running, a lot of people depend on them to move around the country.

Agilufo,
My "on the ground experience" and travel experience gives me the knowledge and sense to know that your suggesting they contact the Honduran embassy in Nica would be a total waste of time . And of course, you say I have not offered one single helpful suggestion but your suggesting the Honduran Embassy is not only not helpful it is a waste of time so really, no advice would be better than yours. So I really did offer a helpful suggestion when I let it be known yours was not valid. Of course anyone with knowledge of travel and Central America would know that but you continue to prove you do not have any or what little you do have you did not get first hand.

As expected.

And yet, with all your "on the ground experience", and seven posts, you still could not give the OP one single suggestion about what she could do.

How pathetic.

:rofl3::rofl3:
The real options have already been given, crossing the border by bus will not happen fast and they would be best off changing flights, even though it costs a bit to do so and they should try work that out with the airline as already mentioned. So you see i really don't think they Needed advise, I just figured i would make sure they or someone else did not take your useless advice and waste their time thinking you actually had any experience or knowledge of travel in the area.

My point here is STOP TAKING THE WRITTEN WORD AS GOSPEL!!!! Listen to what those who know are telling you.

That seems to make sense. Now you tell me who "those who know are"? Is is you? If so give us your level of expertise.

Is it RTB, if so give us his expertise?

My point is I believe many people on this forum are "experts" because the live in Honduras, or have traveled there a few times. I don't know a single of those people and I don't blindly listen to what they have to say. I look at as many FACTS as I can find along with as many OPINIONS as I can find and make decisions based on that information. I find the WRITTEN WORD in many cases much more accurate and reliable that some forum experts. Of course this isn't the case all the time but it is a source. I'm not sure why the Honduran press is more reliable and less prejudice than the US press but many people on this board seem to think they are. Many of the stories in the US are in fact provided by the Honduran press as well as on the ground reporters. I know these people just about as well as I know the people on this forum.

While calling one countries embassy or another might be a waste of time it only costs a few cents and a few minutes. I've personally had great experiences dealing with the US Embasssy in Honduras and in Micronesia. They are every day people that do their best to help travelers. Sometimes they just can't help and sometimes they may refer you to other sources including foreign embassies. They are not the devil and they do try and they are on the ground and I have no reason to believe they would try to harm me.

Getting constantly bashed for ones ideas is going to be the death of this forum as eventually no one will comment for fear of being made fun of. I think many readers eventually just tune out the "bashers" and look for more moderate posters. Some of the "bashers" are truely great information and ideas but they aren't the only ideas.

A good option I would consider is since OP is already in Nicaragua, to go diving to San Juan del Sur. Stay in Nicaragua, have some good food, good diving, good company (nicaraguans are great people) and enjoy. If you get lemons, make lemonade.

QUOTE]

Its not hard to figure my level of experience. Take a look at the links in my signature. I have several years of experience building on the bay islands. I own 640' of beachfront on Utila.

Building and living on the Bay Islands, including the process of obtaining residency, buying/building a boat, building a cabana, dealing with environmental permitting, boat registration, property taxes, etc. What else can I tell you. What else would convince you that I have some "boot on the ground" experience?
