I've got to the stage of identifying where the files are stored on the Ipod, by working out the file size through properties (files stored in G:\Photos\Thumbs BTW). Problem is that instead of say, 400 files of 1Mb each, I get a single file of 400Mb with the extension. ".ITHBM" which won't open for me.

(quoted from previous - Pakman, pay attention and stop thinking about your poor red-raw bottom)

ITHMB files are the ipod photo thumbnails chucklehead. Those are found in the "Photo" directory. Look for a directory called "G:/DCIM" like what you would see if you connect your camera flash card directly to your PC. If you don't see this directory, then possibly it maybe due to your camera not being supported...

chucklehead

OK, from "G:\DCIM" I get folder "100APPLE" and "IPODMISC"

A) Enter folder "100APPLE" then get "IPOD" then 3 files of 1Kb each "DATE", "ORIGNAME" and "ROLL" (i.e. can't be what I'm after as too small)

B) Enter folder "100MISC" then get 4 folders "Roll 1" (9.8MB), "Roll 2" (164 KB), "Roll 3" (6.5MB) and "Roll 4" (12.7MB) - stillseems too small, but anyway...

Each of the 4 folders contains (all are the same): -

1) File (no extention) "Photo Database"

2) Folder "Thumbs" containing 2 files "F1009_1" and F1020_1", both .ITHMB extention

Now it gets fun.

Roll 1 "F1009_1" - 300KB, "F1020_1" - 9.7MB
Roll 2 "F1009_1" - 5KB, "F1020_1" - 150KB
Roll 3 "F1009_1" - 200KB, "F1020_1" - 6.4MB
Roll 4 "F1009_1" - 400KB, "F1020_1" - 12.5MB

That get you any closer?

I've downloaded 670 pics at average size 700KB each in a total of 4 seperate downloads, so both A) and B) seem too small. However back in G:\Photos\Thumbs: -

I have 4 folders "F1009_1" 1.6MB, "F1015_1" 14.9MB, "F1019_1 450MB" and F1020_1" 50MB

Am I still a chucklehead?

Hmm... you still might be a chucklehead regardless...

On mine, the full size photos are in that /DCIM/100APPLE folder.
Those roll folders will only have thumbnail files. If they're not there maybe Oly cameras do it differently than Canon... especiall I'm not sure what else you can check.

HAHA :knob:

I think the problem is here and I'm not sure how to solve it. Given the size of these files, despite being a chucklehead, you are probably right in suspecting your full sized pics being in there. Maybe post a question in the photo section and see if any other Oly owners can help you.

edit: are you sure those roll folders like f1009_1 are indeed in MB and not KB?

Yes. As for posting in Photo section, did that too. Still in trouble...
