Greatwolf - can't view my pics at all through Itunes. Bottom right of the screen I get a bit of text telling me that there are 667 Photos,, but no indication of how to access them.

There is no facility on ITunes that lets you view the photos. It just tells you how many photos you've got on the IPod.

The only way to view the photos that ITunes have converted is through the IPod. (Unless someone's figured a way around this...)

It's one of the reasons why my mates were telling em to get an I-River instead.

greatwolf:
Hey Larry, are you just trying to use the IPOD as a storage device? I also have a 60Gb Photo and have been using it as a storage device for almost a year now. Make sure that you enable it as a disk drive on ITunes. What I do is I don't use any of the default folders on the IPod. I create a new folder to store my stuff. However, you won't be able to view the photos that you've stored unless you use ITunes. ITunes converts them to a format which your IPod can understand. So it's pretty useless, except as a storage device if you don't have access to ITunes.

Sorry, what I meant to say was

"You won't be able to view the photos that you've stored on the IPod screen unless you use ITunes to convert them to an IPod-readable format first."

Yeah, Ipod's converted them to be viewed on the Ipod's own screen and I can't convert them back sums it up about right.

Bloody thing.

You don't have to convert them back. You should still have the original files on the PC/laptop which you used. ITunes just makes a copy and converts that. It does the same thing with WMA files. Unless you deleted the original files yourself?

The original photos came from my camera direct to the ipod. They have never been near my laptop or PC until now.

The camera memory card has been formatted (why did I need redundancy if they were already on the Ipod? Ah the naivety of youth...) so basically if I want the photos, I have to convert these files back into something sensible.

Here's a couple of pages which may help

OK, now that I'm not rushing to the toilet every minute I can respond... Larry, check tonite to see if your iPod shows up in windows explorer as a drive. Then see if you have a folder called "DCIM". Your photo files (intacted) should be in one of the subfolder in there (maybe called "100Apple")

I've got to the stage of identifying where the files are stored on the Ipod, by working out the file size through properties (files stored in G:\Photos\Thumbs BTW). Problem is that instead of say, 400 files of 1Mb each, I get a single file of 400Mb with the extension. ".ITHBM" which won't open for me.

(quoted from previous - Pakman, pay attention and stop thinking about your poor red-raw bottom)

I think he'd only have this if he's set it up to include "full resolution" photos.
