Hi John,
I thought Kalani was in Hawaii??
If I have extra room on my carry-on I'll bring my 8D UK light, but maybe I'll just rent one too as I'm renting wetsuit & BC anyway.
And I really have enough meat on my bones already.. heck, I was planning on taking some off.. of course I have been planning THAT for decades now.
I'm booked on the Spectre Fri-Sat May 25-26 (7 relatively shallow dives) and can, as suggested, sleep on the boat which sounds cool right now, but we'll see when I look at the bunks.
Sounds like a great start to a good Memorial Day Weekend.:coffee:
Now I will just need to get one of those garibaldi to pose for me.

The Garibaldi will often swim right up to you. Great fish to photograph!

I'm Kalani. :)

Thanks.. All booked up and can't wait.. Is it common to dive with Bonine? I have taken the non-drowsy "Wal-Dram II" (Meclizine) with good results.

I also want to see one of these !http://www.scubaboard.com/gallery/sh...8/ppuser/58883

If you spend two days diving the Northern Channel Islands, I would be truly stunned if you didn't see a few spanish shawls. They're fairly common... and yet pretty (and bright) enough that I never tire of photographing them. :) Mo2vation calls them Fedexes on account of their coloring, and I swear it's starting to pick up in general use!

Bonine is just a brand name for generic Meclizine. My advice on Meclizine loading: Ignore the instructions. Take on the day before you set foot on the boat, or at least the morning of if you're spending the night on the boat. You want it in your blood at least 12 hours beforehand, not the 2 or so the box claims. Pop one or two (morning and night if you go for two) per day depending on how you're feeling and how rough the water is. All good. Not drowsy or drugged feeling.

Frank,

My wife and I are planning a trip to the same place and at the same time. We were planning on diving Saturday and Sunday but we are not 100%. We may sleep on the boat (if my wife is ok with it) and of course it is the same boat as you are on.

I am not sure what equipment I am going to bring and what I am going to rent though. I really would like to use my own gear, but what a pain to bring all of my things across the country! Maybe I will bring mask/fins/computer/camera/light and rent the rest. What are you thinking about bringing/renting?

I wouldn't worry about a dive buddy, every time I have gone diving there were more singles than pairs. I am sure the DM will pair you up with someone if you don't find one on your own 1st.

Update,

We are booked for Friday May 25th now. We will be on the boat on Thursday evening to sleep.

Cool ,
will see you there. Sorry I missed your first post. Didn't see any prompt that there was a reply.
I was originally planning on bringing the same stuff you were and renting the rest, but now I think I am going to bring my gear, including my dry suit. It's the only stuff I'll check and it's a direct flight, so shouldn't be an issue. I haven't rented in a long time and I am so used to my own stuff now, but I do know the hassle factor. Besides my nephews will have a blast dressing up in the gear when I visit them after diving.

I don't have too many Drysuit dives yet (I am certified though), but I just spent both days at the DUI DOG days getting some practice in before stepping off the boat in Anacapa. What an ordeal that was. I spent way way to much time waiting around for things to happen. and not enough time diving. Water was 47 degrees in Gloucester, MA this weekend, so almost 60 in Anacapa is going to seem balmy in a drysuit.
Looking forward to meeting you.
Frank

Water temps I've seen have been in the low 50s lately, so don't set your hopes on 60 degree water just yet!

Compared to 46-47 here in Massachusetts, 55.8 is almost 60 even though it does seem to be a few degrees below normal. Where's that global warming when you want it. :)
I'm bringing the drysuit anyway, so even this www can probably handle it.

Frank,

We also decided to bring all of our own gear, except weights and tanks of course. FYI, they do have a limited number of steel tanks for rental, but I would suggest you call now to reserve one if that is what you like. I will be diving with a steel 95 to give me a little extra time. We are also using 7mm wetsuits not drysuits, but I know cold won't be a problem as we went diving last month in 39 degree water (Dutch Springs Quarry PA)with the same wetsuits without a problem. Don't get me wrong, it was REALLY COLD, but we were OK. I would love to dive dry, but every time I have the money for a drysuit the wife wants to use it for a dive vacation. LOL, I guess it is a win/win situation either way.

I am getting really excited now that the vacation is less than 2 weeks away. I was over at the dive shop today in fact getting a few things for the trip.

By the way, my name is Jason and my wife is Katie, we both look forward to meeting you. I will look for you on the boat.

Hi Jason,
I actually booked steel 95s myself back on 3/14. I should call them up to make sure though as at the time I was thinking about renting the whole shebang.
Looking forward to meeting you and Katie. See you a week from Friday!

Great! How long will you be in California anyway? We are going to be there for only 6 days so we will have to make the most of our time. Have you ever been diving in California before? We have never even been to Cali. before let alone dive there. Pretty exciting.

If you know any info. not posted on Cal Boat Diving's website please let me know.
