Well..... It's Wednesday morning 1:30am..... Should I go to work or go wreck diving........hmmmm let me think.... 2 seconds of thought later I'm loading the truck..

I had an awesome day on the Pirate King II out of barnegat Light.

We met at Long Beach Island scuba
http://www.lbiscuba.com/index.htm
at 3:30 am where the owner Eric was open for business signing up divers for the day. This is a very nice dive shop and very well stocked for a small store, I needed a couple of last minute items and Eric had everything I was looking for. It's a nice concept being able to buy scuba stuff at 3:30 in the morning. by 4:30 we were loading the boat, I think we pulled out of the slip around 5:00.

The Pirate King II is a very nice boat, there were only about 7 divers aboard and it can hold 16 so there was lots of room to sleep, stow gear etc. Several bunks below and lots of padded benches and a table in the salon. Captain Rob keeps it in great condition, and It was one of the cleanest and neatest boats I've been on.

Eric (of L.B.I. scuba) hooked us up to the wreck quickly. Brian (the mate) and Captain Rob helped us all get into the water quickly. The pirate King is a large boat but has a low gunnel so splashing in was nice and easy. The wreck was about 120' at the anchor line (the deepest I got on my computer was 135' near some big machinery) and the vis was good at about 20'. I think I heard someone say it was 43 deg on the bottom.
The current on the anchorline was fairly strong, it made the deco hang a bit of a hassel.... (I had a long... Lonnnng commitment) But thats another story. OK....OK I'll just say thank god for hang bottles... Nuff Said...

As I came up the ladder after my first dive
(did I mention I had a long deco hang?)
the mate took my gear and handed me a big slice of cool watermelon, (nice touch).

All of the divers that were looking for bugs and scallops got them, I don't know the final count but I saw several coolers with many lobsters and bags of scallops in them.

We got back into the dock around 5:30, it was one of the best run Jersey boat dives I've been on.

That is kewl. I would love to be closer to the coast. May save some vacation time for next year and go out and learn to bug hunt.
