Five women made a "Big Adventure" trip to Maui - June 21 - 28!

It was another success! The five women included three "newbies" (never evers) and two certified divers.

The three newbies started off with a certification class and the two certified divers spent three days exploring shore diving.

Weather and conditions were not optimal -- Maui was experiencing a south swell. Visibility along the shore ranged from 35 feet to 75 feet (depending on day). Shore dives included Makena Landing, Five graves, and White Rock. One day we entered on the five graves side and made the entire loop to exit at the Makena Landing side -- a first for both of us.

The White Rock site has an almost magical feel to it -- the reef is formed from coral heads that seem to just appear out of the sand -- there is little or no 'rubble' -- When the sun hits 'just so' everything seems to sparkle.

We also ventured to the north shore and dove Maleko Gulch -- a very different kind of under water terrain -- lots of sheet coral and rock grottos.

After the three newbies were certified, all five participants ventured on a boat trip -- first to Molokini -- excellent visibility, plenty of sharks, lots of glorious tropicals. The second dive was a drift dive at Pu'u Olai -- we almost lost count of the number of turtles, and we had a fairly large octopus that seemed to fall in love with one of our guides... it just sat, cradled in her arms, wrapping it's tentacles around her head and face. We also saw a number of frog fish.

One of the three newbies was on the road to 'hard core' -- she asked if she could join the certified divers for yet another day. Even though visibility was poor... we had an AWESOME dive at Ulua Beach... one small turtle -- one giant one... and THREE spotted Eagle Rays!

An awesome week! Three new divers in the ranks!

The next Big Adventure is scheduled for Maui September 27 - October 4.
