cfelliot: Thanks for the trip report. This is exactly what we found in July when we were there accross the channel from you-- both as to condition of the reef and the political climate on Roatan. Can't wait until second week of October when we are headed back. Post more pics if you can, they are great.

That eel has me stumped, have you dropped it in the Name that Critter subforum yet?

Well, we have conger, moray, and snake eel families. Of the three, I would have to classify it as a snake eel based on the characteristics in the photo.

That said, I can't find any description of a snake eel resembling this one.

I am so excited, we have a trip planned in December. It is on the other side at AKR but none the less I am still really excited. I am going with my LDS group and have been told we wil to go to the other side if the weather allows. Thanks for the trip report and especially the pictures and movies.

Patty from the Dockside Dive Center was with us during the dive. The eel was in the sand on the Newnam's side of the Prince Albert at about 60 ft. Even she said that she didn't know what it was?????????

PS: 4 more videos posted!

Thanks for the great trip report! We'll be at CocoView for the first time in April next year and are really looking forward to it. :D

Interesting eel...it certainly doesn't appear in any of my "Caribbean critter" books!

We've booked our flight to Roatan for Dec 26th and haven't yet committed to a place to stay or dive center to dive out of.

So far, Posada Arco Iris seems to have a very reasonable rate and has Internet access which we must have while there. Anybody had experience with Arco Iris?

We want to do our Advanced Open Water certification while there too. Recommendations?
