after an earthquake and irene we flew in only 2 days late.
we stayed at grotto bay beach resort.
Grotto Bay Beach Resort - Only resort in Bermuda offering all inclusive option...

the main reason we stayed here is because there is a dive shop on the property.
www.trianglediving.com/
this was our third trip to bermuda.

the first time i went to the island was 27 years ago.
i crewed on a sail boat from maryland in a race.
only takes 2 hours by jet.
the island has changed a little.

the resort was very very nice.
we also took advantage of their ai plan.
they had 3 restaurants and 3 bars to keep everyone happy.
the food and service is 4 star.
my wife has food allergies and the chefs cooked to her requests.

our room looked out over grotto bay.
beautiful view.
the house keepers kept everything neat and clean.
we were given passes for the bus and ferry systems.
we could go all over the island and exlpore with out renting a scooter.

the dive boat would leave around 9 am.
we would blow 2 tanks then back to the resort.
the crew tried to give us 1 reef dive then 1 wreck dive.
there are over 300 wrecks on the shallow reef that circles the island.

there is water, snacks, o2, radio and 4 crew on the boat.
with 12 divers they put 2 instuctors in the water.
there was a dm and of course the captain on the boat for all dives.

the reef was in better health than i remember.
thousands of brain coral covered the wrecks.
there were fish, but not a lot of different kinds.
we were told that the food chain could not feed the sharks.
they said we would not see any.

the other divers were from spian, the uk, canada, the usa and bermuda.
the shop runs a deal with the locals.
$900 and you can boat dive all year.

the diving as a whole was good and i would dive there again.

my wife is not a strong swimmer and likes to snorkle.
she loves to bell helmet dive.
there is a shop at the navy boat docks that provides this service.
once the boat delivers you on site you walk down a ladder, grab a pole and follow the guide.
as you walk around he shows you different coral and fish.
he has words printed on sticks which he uses for comunication
i get a little nervous not being able to swim 15-18 ft down.
my wife is fearless and makes fun of me.
they also provide a cd showing you looking like capt. nemo.

my wife and i had a great time.
we ate like kings
we met nice folks from all over the world.
we dove to our hearts content

we returned home to more tropical rain storms and flooding.
regards,
