Thanks for the report! I'm headed to Anthony's May 12 so really appreciate it. What is the nightlilfe like on the island? Can I get myself into some fun single trouble while there? :D Any suggestions.....?
You're about 10mins. from the West End. The pub crawl is the nightlife on Roatan. There's a half dozen bars along the main street - probably more we didn't find. Some live music. It's sort of slow though also earlier in the week - closer to the weekend there were a lot of people on the street. You might be able to get a cab back to AKR until very late - we staggered by the cabstand (across from the Coconut Tree building) around 1:30ish Friday night and some were still there. Not sure how current this is: http://www.bayislandsdiver.com/Bars.html Sundowners is a good place to start.

Mid-week - at least the night we were there - AKR was pretty dead after about 9PM.

Best suggestion: have your "fun single trouble" at home - Honduras is not the best place for it. It is, however, a FANTASTIC place to dive your a-- off. Take advantage of the opportunity

sundowners in west end is a popular happy hour spot to watch the sunset. There is a bar with live music some nights of the week that has a dirt floor across Tongs. Some of the places in west bay have live music also. There is definitely more nightlife in west end but I can't remember the names of the places. Fosters in west end has a more club like loud atmosphere from what I remember, not really my thing but there is definitely nightlife a short cab or maybe even water taxi away. I don't remember if AKR has water taxi service to west end.

Stay at AKR.

That's where my group is staying. There are 12 of us going.

That's easy for you to say....you're married! LOL.....I intend to dive my a-- off. I'm looking forward to it.:D

I think you misunderstand what we both were saying.

1) AKR is a great place to do a lot of diving. The SCUBA variety is always
guaranteed. the other stuff is ala carte.

Your vacation can be whatever you want it to be. It has nothing to do with
being young, old, married or single. Some of us fixate on SCUBA diving
and never drink or stay up later than a night dive all week.

I am not George Clooney, but simply from just diving with the ladies,
I have rarely been disappointed by the results at any given resort and
even within the cramped confines of a liveaboad.

2) There is no limit to the amount and level of "fun single trouble" that you
can encounter while partying on the West End. Not talking about "Girls
Gone Wild" or Spring Break Party" Videos. More like "Midnight Express"
in Spanish.

Many posters here fret over personal safety when visiting something even
as mild and relatively milquetoast as Roatan's West End.

My constant reply is- avoid interpersonal relationships. Every time you
engage someone, that ratchets up certain factors.

Listen and learn.....

"Fun single trouble"? Let's cut to the chase. Women in hot wet rubber suits,
right? (or Guys)

The best candidates will be at the resort. Look over the herd during the week.
Determine who is not accompanied. Go for it. Leave on Saturday.

This process is much simpler than trying to discern who's who while you
are off drinking at a public establishment.

Rules:

1) Don't dance with a local, an ex-pat, etc- they may (quite likely) be
someone's _________. (fill in the blank)

You can tell the locals from the visitors in several ways, but none of
them are absolutely fool proof. Do not rely on sun-tans, braided hair
or body odor/scent alone. I would look more at their (lack of) shoes
and more importantly their lack of money. If they have a really nice
wrist watch or a nice ring, it's not likely a local. Freshly scratched
sand fly bites- a tourist.

2) No "local" is going to hook-up with a one week visitor lest the
visitor is a female. For a local female to grab-up a visiting male-
she will suffer derision eternal. DMs are doing the nasty with female
tourists 24/7. Double standard, you bet.

3) Universally, Fridays represent the highest probability for you
gettin' a little somethin' somethin'.

a) People are drinking as there is limited risk of DCS while on
the morning flight.

b) They'll only have to live with their reproductive selection for
the next 6 hours.

c) It's the last night in paradise before returning to Ohio and their
job, "real" clothes, their friends, and maybe even their boyfriends or
husbands.

You're gonna do what you're gonna do....

Use your head, the one atop your neck.

and if your going to be drinking don't forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate then hydrate some more. Unless of course you want a special tour of the hyperbaric chamber at AKR :water:
