I didn't know there were any texas tetras. Are you referring to Mexican Tetras? Astyanyx mexicana.

Yep, I think you're right. They're not native to Texas waters but were introuduced to some - like San Soloman Springs near Balmorhea. One them took to chompin' my ears while I was trying to do the class, and the DM thought I was having equalizing problems as I was covering both. Try to sign "Friggin fish biting ears!"

Has anyone known triggers to attack divers?

I too have heard of triggers getting aggressive if you invade their space during mating season. Never had one take a bite out of me, thankfully.

However, on a dive in Hawai'i I was rapping on my tank with my knife to attract my buddy's attention, and pointing with the knife at a large turtle that was swimming in our direction. Suddenly, a nearby Humuhumu (Picasso trigger) attacked the knife point.

When I withdrew the knife, it backed off; if I pointed it again (any dirction) it advanced and nipped at it. Never attacked me personally or any other part of the knife.

A little Twilight Zone theme here, please!

don, how come you never talk dirty like that to me?

A Humuhumunukunukuapuaa...?

I just didn't want to type it all out.

BTW, ever seen the T-shirt from Hawai'i that says "Humuhumunukunukuapuaa... swim softly but carry a BIG name?" :eyebrow:
