does anyone have experience with Trident Dive gear - we have had nothing but bad luck with most of their products (from clips to rings and everything in between). Operationally they dont hold up all that well and it seems the service is a little lacking. The local shops tell us that delays are usually because of the HQ and not them. Just wondering if we should continue to use the products at the locker or not. Any suggestions? Comments?

Trident carries a million little things that are hard to find elsewhere. The quality is not always there, and the same item is not the same from time to time ... I've seen great variation in the their rubber weight belts for example. But all that said, I continue to get things from them and remain reasonably happy most of the time.

As Thal said you need to be careful and decide what you are willing to accept. I'd never buy another reel from them. But weight belts, slates, orings, and other little hard to find stuff is not an issue for me.

Yes, I have experience, much of it bad.

Many shops carry their products because they represent a (much) less expensive alternative to major brands. But, I agree with Jim, their reels are generally junk, I found their fin strap replacements to be worthless, and in general I have concerns about the quality of many stock items. However, if you look at their website and download their catalog, you will realize what an extraordinarily large number of items they carry, often hard to find items including tools. Thal mentions rubber weight belts, not you most commonly found items in most dive shops, but a valuable piece of gear. And, Trident distributes them. So, I have my LDS order the specific things I want, and avoid most of their standard products.

Thanks for the info. We have had a lot of troubles with their reels as well. We even had to modify many of them just to get them to work and got very week responses when we tried to contact our scuba center or trident themselves.

Try to set up an account for your locker directly with Trident, I was able to do so for the university I was at some years ago, service was much better and prices too. Otherwise try Mar-Vel, they've got lots of those things too and may be a bit more cooperative.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Trident has been invited to join SB.Let's hope they will.

BTW I do have mostly positive reactions on their produce.

Invite Mar-Vel too?

We use Mar-Vel for almost everything. Essentially we never have an issue with their products or service especially. I just hear so many bad things about Trident that it makes me leary.
