Delta's policies are on their website concerning number of free bags and weights. Those numbers are different for various areas.

They do say that they have a surcharge for sporting equipment, but my reading of that section is that SCUBA tanks are their prime concern for the extra charge.

Anecdotally, they've never charged me for my BC, mask, fins. etc. I carry our regs and computers in my carry-on. Last trip to BON, we each were allowed two free checked bags. Mine were all under 50lbs, but they may have allowed 70 on that flight.

I have the Skymiles Amex card which saves me the checked bag fees. They are the only airline that we use since we earn miles with them and I (knock on wood) have not had any issues checking my dive gear. I usually put reg in carry-on just in case checked bag gets lost I still have something to dive with but I have also checked it.
