Thursday may be a dive day for me, if the wife will agree.

Now where is a bigger issue. If the swell is from the SW and is blowing out Laguna, then we would need a North facing beach. Those would be:
1. Malaga Cove - assuming T-N-T and the rest of the group are up to the rather long walk down to the beach. shallow dive, but lots of interesting structure.
2. Haggerties - steep hill scramble down with a short (6-10 ft) near vertical wall to climb down (and up). Or we could swim in from Malaga Cove if everyone is in shape for a rather long swim.
3. Flat Rock – not for a new diver and not until I knew his fitness level. The climb down is, well rather hairy.
4. Topaz Jetty - this is a West facing beach but close enough to Palos Verde to potentially be protected from SW swells. We could cruise by the old pier pilings.
5. Vets Park - also west facing but maybe in the shadow of PV. It is a good night dive, but not much for the day time, and we would have to watch the depth and keep it shallow as I note T-N-T is fairly new.
6. Point Dume - I would not take him here until after I had dove with him to access his physical fitness. 548 yard swim against the current on the return trip has been known to be too much for many divers. Or we could dive the canyon at Point Dume, but it is a better night dive and the parking lot is closed at night.

That is about all of the North facing beaches I can think of..

Robert Phillips:
I may be up for a dive in LA on Thursday ....
Robert,
I am up for a dive Thursday somewhere in SoCal. Want to go diving?

Swell model at the moment looks ugly for SW facing beaches, but the secondary swell is from the NW so where is good, who knows. I am going to Manhattan Beach now and will check ou the SM bay.

If you plan to dive Thurs. ask about conditions on divevets message board late tonight because I expect a huge mob to show up at Vet's tonight. You should be able to get good firt hand reports fro someone you know. A distributer from DiveRite is bringing a ton of gear for divers to try out under water with hot dogs and BYOB after. My guess is for at least two dozon divers to show up

This weekend it was calm from Vet's to malaga. Scattered red tide that goes away at depth.
bio-lumenesent (sp?) plakton was out in force a week ago. Quite a light show. The big swells missed us completely amd it was calm from King Harbor to Malaga

I just got back from Hermosa Beach. Waves were dive condition (1-2 foot) but the redish brown stain in the water extended way off shore a good 3 blocks.

To sum up. Laguna looks like big swells, and Santa Monica Bay looks like red tide city. Ouch. But hey we can explore and see how deep it goes.

Yeah, I can do where ever on Thursday, but it has to be mid morning. Like 8-11:30 to noonish. Laguna is blown out, but the red tide is gone. Must have been pushed up north with the swell. I don't mind trying to get under it. Give me a call tonight or tomorrow morn. I'll PM you my cell.

Report as of 8:00pm Wends. night at Vetran's Park...
Vis opens up to 15 ft below 60 feet. Near shore vis is close to zero, trouble reading gauges.
Small surf

Looks like I'll be out there again Friday night

9:30 a.m. Thursday 22 Sep Topaz Jetty, we are diving if anyone wants to come.

T-N-T sorry we missed you today. We did not hear from you, but went diving in your honor anyway. You had fun and a good dive. Wish you could have been there.

Sorry because I lost out, I was in a work seminar from 7-7 Mon-Thurs. Really Sucked-Death by Powerpoint. Trust me next time I'll have a car and a dive set up w/ a backup plan a month in advance. I'm glad you all got to dive and I really do appreciate the thought. What were the conditions like. Thanks.

Waves under 1 Foot, Vis from surface to 20 feet was hazy but still a good 6 feet or so. Below 20 feet depth it opened up to 15 feet or more. In short, it was a good day diving. Sorry you missed out.
