Thursday may be a dive day for me, if the wife will agree.
Now where is a bigger issue. If the swell is from the SW and is blowing out Laguna, then we would need a North facing beach. Those would be:
1. Malaga Cove - assuming T-N-T and the rest of the group are up to the rather long walk down to the beach. shallow dive, but lots of interesting structure.
2. Haggerties - steep hill scramble down with a short (6-10 ft) near vertical wall to climb down (and up). Or we could swim in from Malaga Cove if everyone is in shape for a rather long swim.
3. Flat Rock not for a new diver and not until I knew his fitness level. The climb down is, well rather hairy.
4. Topaz Jetty - this is a West facing beach but close enough to Palos Verde to potentially be protected from SW swells. We could cruise by the old pier pilings.
5. Vets Park - also west facing but maybe in the shadow of PV. It is a good night dive, but not much for the day time, and we would have to watch the depth and keep it shallow as I note T-N-T is fairly new.
6. Point Dume - I would not take him here until after I had dove with him to access his physical fitness. 548 yard swim against the current on the return trip has been known to be too much for many divers. Or we could dive the canyon at Point Dume, but it is a better night dive and the parking lot is closed at night.
That is about all of the North facing beaches I can think of..
