Haven't had any problems yet. Had the packets stuffed in a plastic bag right inside the housing, no one questioned them. Of course, much would depend on the screeners.

I haven't had a problem. I suppose if it was loose in small baggies it might cause a stir but the way they are packaged, I don't think arouses suspension
 
I think silica gel is pretty clearly marked if it is in the original package and from the instructions if you need to renew it just stick in the microwave..
