Traveling with gear

Even if you're shooting real film, it's only high speed (ISO) that you need to worry about the x-ray machines, and even then it's still questionable. I used to regularly shoot 1600 ISO film and never had any issues traveling with it. (I am a hobbyist and nothing I shoot is important enough to go through the hassle of a "hand inspection".) The recommendation, however, is anything over 800 ISO should be hand inspected and not sent through the x-ray machines.

I am going to take a trip to Maui for a week and want to bring my mask, fins, snorkel, boots, gloves, and Apollo Bio Fins. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions for how to best pack the gear, and anything I should know about or be aware of when doing this?

Stick them all in a suitcase.....like you would your electric razor, toothbrush, extra shoes, & clothes...ie everything else...

Recently I found this new travel companion dive bag that I think will help minimize the bulk when traveling. I plan on getting one for myself in the next couple months.

The items you mentioned can all pack easily. If you kept the original plastic case that your mask came in, pack it in that or else wrap it in a shirt so it doesn't get scratched. I carry my computers with me in a carry-on, everthing else goes in my roller dive bag. If you need a rolling dive bag we have a good selection at Scuba diving books and apparel (the roller bag section is about half way down the menu on the right side of the screen). Have fun in Maui!

Dive company branded bags, roll-ons and other 'flash' luggage may be great, but the realities of travelling/backpacking in less developed nations indicate that some concealment of potentially valuable baggage is preferable.

When I travel, my stuff goes into a tatty old rucksack. I look like any other impoverished backpacker, with no indication that I am lugging $000's worth of easily re-sellable scuba equipment.
