I have the same setup. c-5050 pt015 inon d180 strobe and ultralight arms. I also travel alot with it. .

The camera kit goes into an akona Backpack along with whatever reading material/ipod i have. I use an old Beer coosie (sp?) to cover the housing lens and a sweatshirt will wrap up the rest. Plus I have sufficent room in the backpack for other things as well.
My regs, mask and stuff get packed in my scuba travel bag which is a simple cheap canvas roller bag that no one would go out of there way to look in. invisable in plain site theory.

I posted something similiar awhile back. About 90 % of people probably carry on their cameras and lenses. I believe that my valuables are probably better off insured and checked because I tend to have long layovers (living in Hawaii ) My time zone involves flying in the wee hours I often sleep in a closed gate with my down blanket and pillow, take a sedative and set my alarm. Even when the layovers are shorter sometimes we are in and out of restrooms, bars, stores, etc. I just do not want to be bothered with all that stuff. I am more likely to forget it or get it stolen in the airport. A pilot told me the baggage department is pressurized just fine for the cameras, no worries there.
Another person recommended that I put my Pelican in a large duffle, which I do for disguise. Anyway, thats what I do. Now, there are certain countries I might re-think this for (even Puerto Rico) but for the South Pacific and the BVI, I value not having to keep up with so much. (I am positive I would not ever carry my regulator)
Of course, for people who live in places (like NYC) who can take a non-stop, that might change my strategy.

All my Camera gear, or as much as possible.

I do pack/check my tripod, and sometimes a lens or two that won't fit. If I have to do this, I put them in a soft case, then BURY them in a suitcase, and I mean BURY.

For carryon, I use a LowePro Trekker Nature AW backpack. It's not as big as I'd like, and does not have wheels... but it works.

If I travel with my family, I can get away with more STUFF. I carryon both the LowePro backpack, and a sholder bag! :D

I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I get a DSLR underwater. Right now my UW stuff is a S70, housing, and strobe.. but I generally carry on two DSLR bodies and lenses for topside use as well... Add a DSLR housing, and that just may break me :D

Interesting, I asked this question of Stephen Frink when I met him a while back, and he carry's on all his camera gear, but checks his housing, ports, and I think strobes as well...

There is no right way to go about this, but IMO carry on your most valuable, and most easily pawned stuff. A housing is valuable, but I'd check a housing over a body as there is a LOT less demand for housings.

I have the Camera gear, Oly Evolt E-300 digital SLR, in a pelican hard case that gets carried on. I then have an additional carryon for my regs, computer & any other items. I travel with my own gear and that gets checked with my clothes.
