Hi

Do folks disassemble their regulators when they travel? Take the hoses off and insert the Allen screws, so they are easier to pack?

I'm trying to decide what's the best way to travel with 3 complete sets of diving equipment. (Minus the tanks and weights). I plan to carry on the regulator, computer, and Mask. I don't think the wetsuite and fins will fit, so I think I'll have to check those.

How do people travel with their own equipment?

thanks

My husband and I carry on our regs fully assembled as well as our dive computers. It isn't too bulky and lets us know if anyone disassembles them for "security reasons".

I wear my B/C and carry on the reg (why take it apart?)
You must disassembly a tank. (pack that in baggage..

You're gonna travel with 3 sets of gear?? All for yourself?
Might just want to ship all ahead to your destination.

I leave my regulators assembled. I usually take them in carryon along with my computer and any other bits and pieces I can fit (i.e. SMB, compass, mask, things like that).

Occassionally I get my bags searched as the regs must look funny showing up on the scanner but haven't had any real issues with this.

Hi Scubamama

No they aren't all for me. They are for 3 of us. Three of your very recent students :)

We are trying not to check anything, but it's just too bulky to carry everything on.

I always leave my regs assembled when I travel because I'm lazy, I guess. However, I see no problem with disassembling them for transit. *shrug* It would take about 5 minutes to assemble the hoses for three regs. Not a big deal really. I'd recommend you carry-on a couple of wrenches to do the re-assembly.

FWIW, I also check my wetsuit, fins, and other accessories (lights, booties, hood, snorkel, etc.).

I've got a regulator bag that will hold two sets of regs and our computers. They go on the plane with us when we travel. It isn't that big and easily is carry on size.

Each of us have a rolling duffel and that is what our BC's, fins, masks, snorkels and clothes go into.

Be careful though about the weight thing. It is easy to get over the current weight limits.

Regs are fully assembled. No problems going through security.

Due to flexibility Milflex hoses roll up into a very compact package........

So they are much easier to travel with....

I think you have the right idea. The small stuff, valuable stuff, and indispensable stuff go in the carryon, and the rest gets checked. I assume the checked bags will not arrive intact at my destination with me, and so my "Plan B" is to rent some stuff, and I pack accordingly.

TSA has never had a problem with my dive gear. My only problem has been that I invariably pack much more clothing than I need, and it seems I will never learn.
