I've been diving a Dive Rite Transplate harness and pondering how to strip it down and remove distracting bits from the setup. In particular I find the extra D-rings above the lower set to be rather useless since they're almost at my shoulders and almost out of view when I'm wearing a mask. I got rid of them and replaced the quick release shoulder and belt straps with a single-piece webbing and it seems nice and clean.
Anyway, I get the impression that Dive Rite are not in the business of designing superfluous gear. I'd like to know if they had some purposes in mind for those upper D-rings. (By the way, they are welded to the slide unlike the lower D-rings, which rotate freely). Anyone know?
