Welcome to San Diego, woodyII! You'll find a fun and friendly dive community here. Two bits of advice to get you started:
1. Join the email list on Divebums. People post dive reports, links to their pics, and requests for dive buddies. Pretty much every active diver subscribes to the email list. You can submit your favorite scuba pics for any given week to the Pictures of the Week showcase. It's a nice way for people to share what they are seeing out there.
2. Join a dive club. I would suggest looking into the Dive Animals Scuba Club. It's a large and very active group of divers. The club plans several trips to Catalina (Two Harbors) and La Bufadora (Mexico) every year. You must do at least one of these trips. Many wonderful people to meet! The club also has a couple of boats that enables members to dive local sites very economically. Check it out. You can thank me later. :-)

Welcome to the 'board!!!

Bubbletrubble has good insight for locals but also, feel free to drop on down to your local forum and join in the fun here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/socal/

Hope to see you in the water someday soon.
