I am trying to download my Suunto Cobra for the first time. I am using the Suunto connector with a cable that changes the 9 port unit into a usb port. When I try and download the history, I get a message that the connection timed-out and to check the connection and try again. No matter what I do, it continues to time out. I do have the Cobra set to the transfer mode. Anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for the help. I'll contact Suunto as well, but thought that I would try to get help here first!

Mine does that every once in awhile. Try cleaning the connection points on the computer and the cable with some contact cleaner or some alcohol, then try again. It works for me...

Does divemanager recognize the interface? Most likely it does, but you didn't mention it. I've had several emails from people with the same problem with the suunto cable. It seems that the contacts can be troublesome due to the design of the connector (the contacts have very little travel). Have you tried holding the interface firmly in place? Sometimes the connector itself doesn't do the greatest job either.

This may sound dumb, but did you set TR - PC mode? When I first got mine, I didn't select it (although it was showing on the screen). When you scroll through and the TR - PC show up, be sure to then select it.

yep, that could be the problem as well... I've had countless people email me telling me my interface didn't work only to find that they hadn't actually selected the transfer mode... If there is a 3 in the upper right hand corner of the screen, then you haven't selected tr-pc mode yet (cobra model).

I do have it in the transfer mode. I don't remember seeing a 3 but I will look for it. I haven't had a chance yet to re-try, but will also try cleaning the connectors.

Thanks for all the help!

do you have to make sure the the date format agrees on your computer and your PC ??? ie: d/m/yr or m/d/yr ?

Just a thought. (I had that problem with my dive computer)

Make sure you have USB support enabled in your motherboard bios settings, & as others have said; make sure the connections are clean. I used to have to wiggle my suunto to get it to download using the old serial connectors on com 2.
Hope that helps, Bob

every so often it happens with my stinger... often times it's when I do something when I'm downloading, or a bump it when it's downloading; or whatever. When it does happen, it keeps happening and doesn't clear up even though I know everything is correct.

I've found that if I go into the SDM program file [probably C:\Program Files\SDM\] and delete the profile.vpr that is created when you download; it starts working again. I can only guess that it gets corrupted somehow.
