So have been looking to buy my first wing here and i see there are a few types of inner bladder types.

1. being a urethane/TPU type plastic bag like in DSS wing
2. 1600 denier nylon outer shell and 420 denier PU coated nylon internal bladder like in the Hollis S wing

It seems to me that the latter would be more puncture resistant but harder to patch.

I would appreciate any insight ppl with more exp might have.

on a side note i've been shopping for back plates and after spending the weekend trying them on and checking them out DSS is my fav, but its also the most $$$.
I like the very flat profile it has most of all (i don't mind smoothing mine out and putting MBT in the webbing to keep it safe).

Does anyone know of other flatter back plates like DSS?

Right now im tempted to build my own Hollis setup from leisure pro for 400 w/ shipping to the philippines :)
but deep down i want dss for an extra 120.... choices!

thx

Dive Rite has some flat back plates, also Check Out OxyCheg wings...thier extreme is one of the toughest available...DSS is a great company with great service and products, buy with confidence! Many will say halcyon, but there are better choices out there for less money. I don't know much about the Hollis brand but seem to be nice. Buy what you like and try before you buy if possible.

Agree, the oxycheq plates are really very flat too and I have 2 extreme wings as well. These are really the toughest wings I have ever used.

DSS stuff is great n much more affordable than Halcyon.

Personally I don't see the bend as having much impact n having a rather long neck, I rather not have the plate too close or I'll keep bumping my head on the 1st stage lol!

didn't think about bumping my head, but i feel like one closer would be better...
either way i won't be getting halcyon, they are way out of my price range!

the oxycheq and DSS seem to use the plastic inner vs the nylon w/ plastic backing.

From what i see both are good i just wonder what, if any, is the benefit of either style?

I can't really comment about the durability of either type of inner bladder as I've only had them for 5 years and yet to experience a puncture.

The urethane is heavier in comparison and possibly easier to patch however, the 420 denier PU coated nylon internal bladder folds easier for packing.

Perhaps denier resists tearing better but for that to happen you must have done something seriously wrong. Either way, if you are seriously concerned about getting your wings punctured, you can consider the extreme series or oxycheq wings for about $80-$100 more.
