I have had good luck with the uk sl4 eled. http://www.uwkinetics.com/products/sl4-eled#.UqQl8X-9KSM. Not sure how deep people have been taking it but I have had to just over 70 ft and no issues yet. Nice and bright, conveniently sized and fits in a BC pocket, runs 10 hours on 4 c cells and only $100 or less.

Nonsense. Have 15 or 20 dives on it.

sorry for that. When i first looked at it the first thought i had is if you were using a drysuit that you'd never get it to sit right over the cuff rings. Obviously my comment was a little premature since not everyone dives dry... again sorry.

That's the same one I had that just turns off if you go deep enough with it. I doubt you'd have trouble with it at 70ft or even 100ft but I found it started getting unreliable at about 36m/120ft and deeper. At 42/140ft I found it pretty irritating to use and since I had it to use as a backup light I needed it to be more reliable than it was. Maybe I just got a lemon...dunno.

I dive dry, just no cuffs.

I have 2 Xtar D06's. Not a huge fan of the magnetic "fader" switch (I believe they now have a version with piezo buttons), but it is 1000 lumens, solid build quality, double o ring seal and uses 18650 rechargable LION batteries - so it only cost me another $15 for 2 spare batteries. I generally run it at 50% most of the time and get a good 3-5 hours out of a single charge. The charger has a mini-usb power connector, so can be plugged into a car charger which comes in handy when camping or out on a boat for a couple of days.

What's wrong with the fader switch? I use the D01 and D02 which are similar, in an Oxycheq light sock. The fader switch acts as my on off switch when in the sock, and it can dim down the light which is handy at times (like when I'm out of water).

I have no regrets buying these two lights.

EDIT:

Thought I'd post a pic. Most of the light hangs off the front. No issues using a reel or spool with this. I pull it off to turn it on, then put back on the wrist.

What's the white part of your handle?

PVC from Home Depot. 1" for the top, 4" for the bottom. The top was cut in half, the bottom to fit over my hand. Next time I will go with bigger than 4" though. Two stainless steel screws holding the top to the bottom, ground down on both sides (head and tip). Also glued. All knots go on top, otherwise they irritate the hand. Shock cord for all straps.

Couple more pics.
