Evening all, this is my first time asking a question on this forum. I just bought a ZD710 MK2 and I'm hoping it's a good primary dive light or do i need to go brighter.Im a new diver so any thoughts would be helpfull
It's fine. You'll probably end up owning multiple lights if you dive long enough. With everything diving you have to sort of start with the end in mind and build gear / skills around that. Or buy more crap as you go along, lol.

The MK2 is a fine recreational light. It comes with 2 usb chargeable batteries which was a nice upgrade from the 1st ZD710. Make sure you rinse the zoomable part well in fresh water.
 
It has a pretty decent charge indicator. I can't confirm if it goes to low power at 10% but most chipsets do.

Basically no lithium powered light allows discharge below ~2.5v. Non constant output lights cutoff at around the same battery voltage.

So are you saying it's full bright until 10% and then off? 🤔 Obviously I'm ignorant then, but it was my understanding that light vs light the constant would turn off sooner while the non constant would just get dimmer for longer.
 
I don't know if it dims at 10% but most drivers do. The warning is the very noticeable state of charge indicator on the lighthead.
Dimming is a poor SOC indicator because it happens slowly enough that our eyes adjust, especially if running on a lower level.
All lithium powered lights will just cut off when they hit a certain voltage. If you want a light that will run batteries into the ground it'll need to be alkaline.

So let's say we have 2 lights. Both identical in every way except one has constant driver and one does not. Which will stay lit longer?

It is my understanding (assumption maybe) that the one without the constant driver will emit light longer (although quality will degrade).

No measurable difference if running the same wattage, which will be an average for the non-constant driver.
