Works well when you can wade in. Many places thats not an option as youre on a boat thats not moored up and possibly also crowded..
 
I started my dive classes today, so I got the answer to my question. Apparently where we dive, during the hottest months the wind frequently kicks up over the gulf which causes the waves to pick up. So I guess it's not really "too hot to dive", but more of the hot weather causing windy conditions which makes it hard to dive, especially for beginners.
 
For the style-deficient out there, yet another reason not to wear Crocs. :D

Yuk it up ... still the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet! ;)
