Hmmmm, decisions, decisions......
The LDS said they would pay for lifetime parts with the Apek's but $65 for labour to service them.

Here is what is all included in the HOG deal for $450, which includes shipping.

Damn. I would take that deal.
You can always sell the extra 1st if it comes to that.
I was considering picking up HOG regs. I ended up with SP's after getting a really good deal.

Only things missing from that photo are a necklace and another boltsnap for the primary - about $10 worth

Lifetime parts is a marketing ploy really, I wouldn't be making decisions based on that... Labour is the bulk of the cost of servicing, parts are relatively cheap. You'll pay the same in the long run if you're tied to an annual service

IMO if you're comparing Apeks to HOG the question is do you want to buy used Apeks or new HOGs, because that's where the price match point is

I agree. It doesn't really matter much with one regulator, but if you start to buy more regulators the annual service obligation to keep current with the "free parts" game will get expensive. Or just inconvenient.

...especially if the OP is going to buy 2 first stages and only use one in the short term - because they'll both have to be serviced to maintain the 'free parts' deal anyway

On the topic of whether he should do that or buy a singles set - the saving probably isn't going to be any more than $100-150. So I would ask myself, what could I do with that money instead - buy a nice mask? Some fins & springstraps?

Now look what you did....

....There's going to be a what fins should I get thread, followed by a who makes the best spring straps question.:eyebrow:

DRIS has:
Hog D1 2nd stages @ $99.00
Hog D1 1st stages @ $169.00
Hoses are extra.
Free shipping. They can service if you don't have a local option.

 At those prices a single tank setup would cost more the doubles kit he's posting about

That's a very good deal, especially if you are interested in diving a long hose. The HOG regs are good regs -- we just switched our entire fleet of regulators over, so that we can easily do our own maintenance.

If you buy two first stages and only use one, the other can sit -- if it sits for a long time, have somebody service it before you use it (o-rings can fatigue and age). Otherwise, you can use it for an Argon reg (and Argon is REALLY REALLY nice in our cold waters).

I don't think you can buy a good quality regulator setup for much less than what you have found here.

I was just showing the price for a singles reg setup vs the $450.00 for doubles if he was going to just dive singles. If he plans on doubling up soon, then definitely go with the doubles kit as vs. 2 x the singles.
