You check the Riffe Competitor? It's a little more expensive than the 38 Special XHD though, but not much. Not sure how it compares power wise.

Just info. from quick web search. Don't know much about spearfishing, only seen it done on trips to the Gulf, and talked to a few ppl. that have caught lake cats. Broken Bow in Okla. has had some big cats taken with spearguns.

Maybe Cuda could give some basic advice on starting spearfishing.
