Hello everyone!,

I'm in the Bay Area for a couple of weeks, and searching around on the Interwebs it certainly looks as if Monterey is the dive location to go to around here...

I'm from Germany, very much used to cold water and got ~180 dives, and would love to dive today (as well as a couple of times more in the next few weeks).

Since I was insanely busy over the week I haven't done any specific preparations to go diving at the weekend, unfortunately. Thus, I believe there are two possibilities I can hope for: Either I consult one of the local dive stores for a guided tour with a divemaster (short notice I guess) or maybe one of the board members here volunteer to drag a visiting brother along... hey, I'll buy lunch and teach you how to swear in German, too

It'd be my first dive with my new dry gloves and I need to make sure my equipment has survived the flight(s), so an easy first dive would be good.

So, if anyone is diving today (or possibly tomorrow) and would be willing to take me with them, that'd be great. Alternatively, if anyone would have a recommendation as to which dive store to turn to for an introductory dive here, that would be greatly appreciated too!

Welcome to California... Your best bet for today is to hit up a DM for a guided tour... other than that go to the Breakwater and try for a pick up buddy. It should be pretty busy right now. I would start driving down..... better than hanging out in your hotel room

Freediving in Sonoma and Mendocino for Abalone. The seas are a little rough this weekend 6+, but it is doable. The visibilty was great during the week hopefully the seas calm back down soon.

Thanks for the kind welcome and thanks for the hints!

I went to Monterey, registered with the Silver Prince for two boat dives tomorrow and scratched diving for the day - I went to the aquarium and was really impressed with it!

So yeah... I'm hopping on the boat tomorrow and hope for decent weather. It seemed like the wind ripped up the water pretty good and the visibility didn't look great from shore.

But one thing I must say already: What a wonderful landscape and beautiful coastline!
Oh, and something about watching harbor seals hang out at the beach strikes me as relaxing, too

I'll be here til May 17... let's see how well I can use that time
