Sealife SL960D External Strobe with fiberoptic link

For those of you running comparable setups how are you running the fiberoptic cable in to the box that supports the diffuser? Or did you just remove the support box entirely?

Thanks in advance.

Brian

I have used the Inon fibre optic cable with my Canon A70/75 and housing (virtually the same box thing). I just slide the end of the cable under the box - there's a gap that works just perfectly :) It's not high tech but it works a treat - just remember that it's there as you move the strobe...if you pull too much, the cord will come out and the strobe won't fire. Simply push it back in. One could probably stick a bit of electrical tape etc over it, but that seems like a lot of extra work ;)

Have fun!

I have the adapter and had to remove the whole box so I could slide the whole thing over the lens port. So far have had no problems.

Hello Brian.
My fibre optic cable is attached with velcro. I drilled a small hole in the top of the diffuser box (it has water in it anyway), slightly larger than the cable thickness. I pulled the end of the cable through the attachment point, and bent it over at app. 90 degrees, so the end of the cable virtually butts up against the housing directly in front of the camera flash. I then attached the other bit of velcro on top of the diffuser box, with the hole in the velcro over the drilled hole. Easy. Really handy as it means I can still use the on board flash if I don't feel like using my Inon strobe. To avoid backscatter if I am using a strobe, I tape a bit of developed but unexposed negative slide film over the camera flash. Supposedly this is the same as Inon's clear film. Not sure about that, but it works well. I am using the WP-DC50 as well. I will try and rustle up some photos of my setup. but I am away from home for another fortnight. Hope this gives you some idea anyway.

Regards to all.

I'm with you up until the point of the velcro. :-)
I'm not sure what you're doing with it. Hole in the velcro?

OK. Obviously there are 2 sides to the velcro, one with hooks, the other with whatever you call the other side. My cable was an Epoque cable. The separate bit of velcro with the sticky, gluey back on it should have a hole in the middle of it. Otherwise, no light gets through to the cable end! Position the hole in the velcro over the hole you have just drilled in your diffuser box. Then you can just feed the cable through and clamp the other bit of velcro on. Un fortunately, I can't access my photos for another fortnight. Hope this makes it a bit clearer.

Regards-Greg

AH! Got it! :-)

Let me know if you get it sorted. The fibre cable is quite flexible, it will not break, so don't be scared to bend it. In fact, I normally give it a bit of a kink before I attach it, as it slowly unbends over a couple of days/weeks. As I said, it saves having a whacking great cover over the diffuser assembly, meaning you can still use the camera flash if you just want to take the camera for a snorkel, or just out in the weather!
