Just called my LDS for pricetags on different regulators. I told him Id be diving to 130 ft and want something that would breath steady. He suggested Aqua Lung Legend. I asked him about Titan LX and how that would do in that depth and he said the Legend has an over balanced second stage so it would perform better.

Is this guy trying to sell me a higher end reg or s the difference between Legend and Titan really worth the extra bucks?

Within Recreational limits and profiles, you probably could not tell the difference in either of the two.

Water temps could help you make the choice. If you are diving in colder fresh water lakes, quarries or rivers, I would most likely suggest the Legend. If you will be diving in the warm tropical waters and staying within recreational profiles I would recommend the Titan and spend the extra on other toys! :D

The Titan LX uses the same second stage as the Legend. It is the pneumatically balanced design. At 130 feet you will see no difference---ABSOLUTELY NONE---NONE---NONE between the two. This is not opinion, I own both and have had both at those depths and more and IMO I prefer the Titan LX. Smaller first, easier to repair, parts every where in the world, rugged and reliable.

One thing, the Titan has only one HP port, if your going to run those silly wireless things AND a mechanical spg then you may wish to get the Legend which has two HP ports. I got my Titan LX NIB on ebay with warranty for just a bit over 200 dollars. Leisure Pro sells then at 279 I think. Less than half of what I favored our LDS with his yearly bone for the Legend.

Both can be gotten with cold water enviro kits.

I own both a Titan LX and an Atomic B2. For a variety of reasons, the B2 is considered to be a higher performing reg and the price tag reflects that. I've got lots of dives on both and frequently switch back and forth and I would challenge anyone to tell the difference between the two. I also use it regularly in cold water. Note, I don't advocate using any equipment outside of the manufacturers specs.

That said, if you are sticking to recreational profiles for the forseeable future, I would go with the Titan and use the money on other stuff.

How deep have you taken your LX?

I have the Legend. The first stage has their auto closure device (ACD) which might help you keep debris or water out of the first stage. That and the extra high pressure port were the factors swaying me. So far, I think the ACD feature might have been a nice feature (hard to know for sure) and the added complexity hasn't become an additional failure mode.

The other difference I saw was the Legend has an over-balanced first while the Titan is balanced. Not sure how many people that really benefits...

Tough to say but certainly over 100 FSW.

Just another comment on the cold water performance of the Titan. On Sunday, I did a very shallow doubles dive to test my new rig. My main objective was to take a short spin around a local cove to feel things out and then do a bouyancy check with 500 PSI @ 15 FSW. Needless to say, it takes a long time to blow through 240 CF of air at 20' so we intentionally stopped and let our back ups free flow to take us down below 1000 PSI. The water was 39F. Anyone that dives cold water regularly is rolling on the floor right now, knowing that this a SURE FIRE way to freeze a reg. We anticipated this so nobody was surprised. Both of my buddies were on SP MK25 / S550's and both froze in about 10-15 seconds. I fully expected that my Titan would also freeze as I continued to let it flow but it never did. Again, I would never advocate doing this kind of thing and advise that you always use your gear within the manufacturers recomended limits.

I don't think you'll be disappointed either way. I just think there are VERY few divers (myself first and foremost) that can truly appreciate and take advantage of the features of today's high end regs.

WOW! What an experiment man!!! I would have bet my money that the Titan would freeze up faster than the SP if you did that. Do you have the Titan LX Supreme? If you have that then I am not surprised because it is designed for cold water diving.

The MK25 is a piston reg, water can flow into spring chamber.
The moving shaft of the piston is exsposed to water.
The Titan is a diaphrm reg the moving parts are not exsposed to water only the spring is exsposed,so it is sealed.
So it does not suprise me that the MK25 would freeze.
The enviromentaly sealed reg only seals the spring which may be more important if you are diving under ice.
The scubapro MK17 is a overbalanced enviro sealed reg.
The Titan LX supreme would be a good choice, and the price is much lower then the Legend or MK17:D
