Hello all,

I recently purchased a Sherwood Wisdom II. The manual discussed Time to Fly/desaturation timers and stated there is a feature where the computer will tell me this.

What are time to fly/desaturation timers and why are they important?

Thanks

Josh

It gives you a "countdown" display after your last dive, and the display continues to countdown until it is safe to fly (or ascend to elevation). My computer just has a default 24 hour countdown, other computers may be different.

Best wishes.

Josh0322 for the fly timer you need to re-read your o/w manual and your owner’s manual for the computer.
For the desaturation timer that's the calculated time for tissue desatuation at sea level. Most people do not know this one but everybody should know about the fly time.

My Luna calculates this after every dive and has a countdown on the screen for no fly and repeat dive.

My Suunto counts down the greater of 12 hours or desaturation time.

You don't need a dive computer to tell you when it's safe to fly. DAN recommends 18-hrs after the last dive, and this time period should have been covered in the basic OW class. Some agencies recommend up to 24-hrs after the last dive.

Desaturation means that your body had offgassed the nitrogen that loaded into you body while you were diving.
