Are recreational boats allowed to tie up to the balls or only charter boats? Haven't been on the Poling in years and it was always on charter boats while assisting classes. Thanks.

The moorings are usually actively maintained by the dive charters up there (Cape Ann Divers, Daybreaker, Gauntlet). Nothing formal but they get replaced/fixed by whatever boat if they happen to break. I've seen plenty of recreational boats utilize them. I don't think anyone would have a problem with you using them.

Glad I saw this post. I dove the Poling with Cape Ann Divers last fall, but can't remember for the life of me how to find the balls. Any idea of coordinates or what the moorings look like? Thanks!

I'm not sure if you've found the numbers, but this is from the state (Chester A. Poling)

Coordinates: latitude 42° - 34' - 25" N; longitude 70° - 40' - 15"W.
