oh man, did you have to explain the quesadilla part? I just vomited on my computer!

Not good enough...

:worthless:

Haven't read this thread. If you throw up through your regulator be careful that fibrous elements don't get stuck in the exhaust valve of your 2nd stage. They will lead to wet breaths until you open up the stage and clear them out.

And they say fibers are good for you! :shakehead:

Actually, vomiting into the water having first removed your reg isn't difficult. It just needs to be practised. It can be very good for attracting little fish, though you want to have the vomit well clear of your mouth, or you'll feel little teeth nibbling at your lips.

Now, when will PADI introduce vomiting as part of their OW skills learning? Or perhaps they'd regard it as a bit more advanced. How many dives to earn a PADI Vomiting Specialty?

If they do I just hope they do it AFTER I finish Divemaster so I don't have to demo that skill.:shocked2:

I barfed in my regulator about my first 100 dives. Didn't matter how long I was at the surface, shore diving or boat, barfing on my safety stop was the rule.

That is what I call commitment!

What might be good is to have a good dive buddy-

It's with a bit of embarassment for me to admit that I vomit in my regulator at least twice (over the course of a week) anytime I dive in salt water. My husband is an amazing dive buddy (in more ways than one  ) the first time he took me on a trip we were just dating and he held me in place (I believe we were at a safety stop) while I lost every bit of breakfast and maybe even some of dinner from the night before, and then he had his second stage ready for me if I needed it when I was done. Sweet of him, considering he gets sick just thinking about vomit. I was extremely embarassed, but I think in the same trip he ask me to marry him :). Everyone else had really good points- Eat something that tastes equally as good coming up as going down, having your second stage handy so you clean clean out your primary is a VERY good idea, but my recommendation is to let your dive buddy know it's a possibility so they're prepared IF/when it happens and they can make it as safe for you as possible. Besides, you'll want them to enjoy all the fish that come for the fresh chum! :)

aaahahahaha. Reminds me so much of my honeymoon. Windjammer cruise, rough seas (even the crew were getting sick), and my new wife and I are sitting in our tiny cabin passing a trash bucket back and forth taking turns. "I love you - gggaaaaaaaaccccckkkkk, I love you too - ggggggaaaaaacccccckkkkk, Nice one, love you - gggggggggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccccccccccccckkkkk."

Ah to be young again!

A friend who leads lots of trips down here (Belize) once called me "her best diving chum". You work that one out.

An instructor once told me this, which kinda makes sense but I don't know anyone who's tried it:

When you know you're going to spew, just pull one side (wing?) of the mouthpiece out of your mouth and hit the purge at the same time. He reckons it'll blow the chunks away from you and your reg. The purge air blowing keeps the large chunks from getting caught under your exhaust valve which is a potential danger as you'd inhale seawater at that point.

ANy thoughts?? It seems to make sense but not having spewed yet I dont know

Don't try anything new. Keep the regulator in your mouth. Hold it with both hands. Be ready to purge.

I have been violently ill underwater due to air contamination. Looking back on the situation, there wasn't time to think or prepare as your scenario suggests. I know that puking through my regulator works, and that it what I will do if the situation presents itself again. Keep it in and hang on.

Just chew your food well before diving, had one guy pick a piece of Kim Chee out of his regulator after the dive an ate it, most of the boat was ready to hurl after that. :yuck:
