I echo the recommendation for Guido's. It popped to mind as soon as I saw the question. YUM! And the courtyard is a great atmosphere. Good house wine as I remember as well.

yes, I loved Guido's so much! If I go back, I could easily eat there every night.

How about Casa De Mission? It's an enourmous hacienda in back of town set in a walled garden. I don't know it's post-wilma condition, but it was a really special dinner my last two trips. Great strolling band.

Ate at Guido's last Friday about 8:30 PM. Sat in the entry way looking out on the street and ocean. Traffic wasn't bad because most of the neighborhood shops were closed and all the Cruise ships had departed.

Service was Good to excellent; however it was very strange that one waiter took our drink order another brought the Sangria, another brought garlic bread, another took our order, and another brought the food. We repeated the cycle for desert and coffee. It was like a tag team.....

The Red Snapper seafood special was excellent....

I'm glad we saved it for our last night in town.

A few weeks ago we had a very nice dinner at Pancho's Backyard. The place is lovely and we were very pleasantly surprised with how good everything was. The service was great, drinks and food good too. We went around 7p on a Saturday and it wasn't very busy. Being that you have to walk through Sinco Sole we expected a pretty touristy atmosphere and overpriced mediocre food. I was just curious what this place was like.

We had 2 drinks each, appetizer shared, two seafood entres and each had dessert. The bill was $65. Not cheap, but it was such a nice evening and I've paid more for less on vacation and at home.

The waiters at Guido's work as a team...they always have...and most of them have been thee for many, many years. In fact, the staff has been the same for the last five years at least. That is one of the things that makes the service so great at Guido's...you don't have to tag down a waiter...ever...because they all take care of everybody...none of this "it's not my section" stuff. Tips are pooled and shared as well. I have NEVER had bad service at Guido's and I've been there at least 50 times in the last 5 years. Consistency in food quality and service is why Guido's is among my top two favorites on the island.

Casa de Mission... that place has wild animals in cages on the estate grounds, i think. yea, that was a cool experience. I had great fish, cooked whole.

Guidos would rate in my top twenty dining experiences in life. It is really a memorable place. "Top two"....Christy whats your other fav?

La Cocay...
Hey Girl!

Have you been back to La Cocay since we were there last month? THAT was one outstanding meal!

We had 6 people and everybody's entree was pure perfection. We kept passing the plates to try everyone elses. They have a nice area out back (would it accomodate a large party?) but I don't think it falls into Alcina's budget.

As far as Guido's... I've been there probably close to 15 times and only once did I walk away saying that it was just OK. Food has always been excellent and I have never ordered off of the regular menu, always the "specials". Oh, I agree, I like the "waiter by committee"
