I'm a Fish!
We are doing our wedding thing in Cozumel and I have a few questions...I probably should start three threads to keep myself from going crazy, but I like to live on the edge ;)

1 - Where would you suggest for a more non-touristy event dinner/lunch/brunch meal with the wedding guests? We need to have three or four of these. I'd like somewhere with a little courtyard or a funky space away from the touristos. We adore Mission (the one by the big supermarket not Chedraui) so that is already on our list. Inexpensive to moderate only please - seafood is not a huge issue, we'd rather have something we can't get at home.

2 - What sort of local giftie do you think might make a neat wedding gift for the guests? We didn't shop at all while we were there so I have no idea. It's ok if it's a bit kitchy ;)

3 - Which tour or half day trip would you suggest for a group activity. Not all are diver or golfers and there is a wide range of personalities....is there somthing that might appeal to a wide audience? Perhaps a day to the mainland even?

Appreciate it!

1. La Veranda...although more on the expensive side or El Moreno on Av. 10 has a cute little courtyard area and not expensive...not touristy. I think Mission on 30th is a great option though.

2. I'm still thinking about this one...

3. There is a boat called "Catch the Wave" that's pretty cool. It's a three level 100 ft boat that offers cruising and snorkeling as well as BOND (helmet diving) and some other things. They can also do customized trips. I've been on the boat on a few different occasions for private parties both during the day and for a sunset dinner cruise.

I'll have to locate their contact information...but I found this review from 2002...still sounds accurate though :) http://www.members.shaw.ca/stanmilo/2coz7.htm

Cozumel Sailing or a guided Island Jeep tour would be some other nice options. The jeep tour can be customized to include Punta Sur National Park and San Gervasio ruins as well as beach stops. Pelicanos Tours would be myrecommendation for something like this: http://www.pelicanos.com.mx/cozumel/en.html They can do Cozumel and/or mainland tours.

Another option would be to visit XCaret or Xel-Ha on the mainland for the day. These parks literally have something for everyone. XCaret has a really neat dinner show with traditional Mayan dancers and a fireshow...really a site.

I hope this was al little helpful :)

Christy, I cannot remember the name of the BEST place. It had a courtyard and a big stone/brick oven and they made wonderful bread. It was mid priced, lots of trees inside, with the little white lights and located in sort of a narrow alley. ...it was exceptional. Lots of stonework. Anyway, it came to mind right away. A block or two from your waterfront street.

Are the ruins too far? You could get some very dramatic wedding party pictures!

Kristen -Aloha and best wishes,

This might be a great idea combined with the tour around the island...get the wedding guests in more of the shots rather than just the standard day of shots of the (very small!) wedding party.

The wedding itself is such a small thing...I want to spend time with people too!

Oh yes of course Guodos! I didn't forget about it...it is just always very busy and is more expensive...HOWEVER...depending on how many people, you could possibly reserve the entire courtyard. There are affordable things on the menu and you could even arrange a family style dinner of say spaghetti, lasagna, pizza. I did this for my staff and vendor/service provider appeciation lunch last year...but I did it on a traditionally slow day of the week and during lunch. I didn't reserve the entire courtyard, just a big table for our group. It actually worked out great and cost me less than $10 per person.

The pictures at the ruins is a great idea...and I've seen wedding pictures done that way here...really beautiful...even though San Gervasio isn't near as dramatic as Tulum or Chitzen-Itza :)

Christi,

Any information on how we can get reservations for 24 people? We are trying to plan the same type of dinner on Sunday, March 19.

In terms of the tours....

1) Half day snorkeling trips from a boat
2) Sunset sailing cruises
3) Jungle tours
4) Mainland tours to Tulum, Xcaret, or Chichen Itza (though these become more full day events)
5) ATV or ATV/Kayak Tours
6) Horseback riding

We have a lot of this out on our website. (www.gregandmarie.us) We will PM you the password and stuff.

Guido's is closed on Sunday as is La Veranda. I'm not sure about El Moreno...but La Mission on 30th is definitely open and wold be a fun choice.

E-mail me and let me know more details of what you had in mind and I'll see what I can find out for you.

Christi,
I think it's great all the the help & info you give on the board. You should probably change the name of your company to Blue XT Sea Diving & Event Planning.
