I agree with Gator. You go down together - you come up together. This also works if one of the team is cold, having a bad day, whatever the reason it's irrelevant. Any member of the team can thumb the dive whenever they need to.
I don't feel sorry for people that are angered because they have to end a dive prematurely. The dive will always be there another day. Sometimes I dive with people that get cold faster than I do. They give me the cold sign and we end the dive. No question and NO disapointment. The people I dive with are my friends, so I won't be selfish and put my needs or their safety at risk. I wouldn't put my safety at risk either. How would they explain to my wife that I continued the dive without them and now couldn't be found? That's a huge burden to place on a friend and I won't do it for an extra few minutes of bottom time.
