I am just moving to a BP and wing system and am looking at the OMS bladders. They come with the stretch cords to help deflate the bladder. I've always had zeagle and love it but am curious if the OMS bladders with these deflate cords work well.

Thoughts?

I have heard that the bungies are for keeping the over size wing from being caught on something and the water pressure will deflate any bladder. If you need to orally inflate at the surface in case of emergency you have to work against the bungie cords and blow harder to get it to inflate. Depending on you ability to blow that may or may not be an issue for you.

Do a search on bungiee wings, bondage wings, bungee wings, etc. You'll find a lifetime of arguments about the merits or lack thereof of the elastic cords on a wing.

I have 4 wings, none have the elastic, they all work perfectly. None of my dive buddies have them, and they also work perfectly. I have used bungie wings for a class for a few days, and saw no ill effects, or benefit. They were harder to orally inflate. I watched a diver with a 60# OMS wing in a rebreather class, and witnessed the bunching and added drag it caused. So in that case it detracted from his diving.

These have been my experiences and I offer no opinion on whether it would help YOU or not.

Best of luck.

Agree with PF...it is all a matter of preference. I dive the DR Rec wing and it has the bungee system. I have no problems and dont really find it any more difficult to orally inflate as my first vest style.

Try it and if you like it...buy it and dont worry about what others think.

You'll die if you use the Bungeed Wings of Death!! j/k

I do like the DR style better as they are under the wing where they can't get hung up. Also, the DR seem more designed to change the shape and maximum size of the wing, not so much to crunch the wing down when not inflated thus there is likely less resistance to oral inflation than OMS version.

How so? Added drag I mean.
I have spoken with a number of users, none of whom notice any difference, banded or unbanded.

PFord can actually see drag. It's an amazing ability.

In this instance, the diver was using a rebreather. The bungie wings pulled in the wings over most of the length, but missed the very bottom. The fabric was sticking out like 2 sea anchors. It was the widest point of shape he presented to the water.

But without doing the necessary calculations, which I believe involve advanced differential equations, how are you sure that the "sea anchors" didn't actually improve efficiency by creating an eddy effect behind the diver that contributed to propulsion?

Because I read it in the internet...
