Folks,

Thanks for the links and the thoughts .. much appreciated.

Infact I completed my PADI Rescue course yesterday, which actually stimulated my synapses in thinking against the AIR 2. Whilst I have never in my years of diving (touch wood) needed my occy in an emergency, the scenarios that my sadistic instructor put me through has opened my eyes to the whole thing.

A panicked OOA diver, buddy or not, may instinctively look for that traditional bright yellow hose and reg synonomous with the occy. In not seeing one, the path of least resistance is to rip the second stage out of your mouth. Albeit the AIR XS 2 would become my 2nd stage in such an emergency anyway, I am thinking that the traditional set up may be the better option when you know what hits the fan.

This coupled with the want of taking my own reg and occy set up with me on holidays when I may not be able to take my owm BC again compounds my thought process.

Out goes the Air XS 2 and in comes the Alpha 8 or Swivel!

Thanks folks:)

I have the Aeris Air Link sister product. My dive buddy and I have practiced your scenario over and over (in a pool) donating (willingly or not) the primary and reaching for the Air LInk is just not an issue. To make things clearer, my primary 2nd stage (Omega II) is on a long yellow hose. Someday I will change the housing to yellow.

Did not realise this thread was still being read... (Oh btw, I had accidently used my wifes login (scubi do) when I posted the original thread)..... but a lot has happened since doing my rescue course way back then.

In re reading the thread I have now had a 180 degree change in thought since starting some tec training. In a tec environment, the secondary reg is around the neck and the primary is given away to the OOA diver. Furthermore, the problem of dumping air is a no brainer as it has been beaten in to me since starting tec that one stays horizontal and uses the rear BC dump to empty the BC, not the BC hose.

So if we mix and match what I have learn't over the last few courses ( and while it does not strictly abide by tec best practices so no flames please....) a hybrid would be a 5' hose on the primary which goes to the OOA diver, the Air XS 2 that you take over as your air supply and also negate having the secondary around your neck. You dump your BC via the rear valve and all is in peace with the world!!

Cheers

Rainsey
