You folks may remember me from some time ago....I was the guy who wanted a pony tank just to do some quick dives with no experience. Well you convinced me otherwise and now here I am in a scuba diving course. So far we have just been in snorkeling equipment provided by a local shop to see what we like. I have be looking around and came to some thoughts on some gear. All I need is a mask, fins and snorkel to start.

Mask: Mares X-vision --I have not tried this on but I have a pretty generic face in the sense it is not to wide or long. I plan on trying it on before I purchase.

Fins: Scubapro Jet Fins --Heard these seen to be some of the best

Snorkel: Whatever works

My instructor set some packages up for like $200. He says they are nice but I am not sure on what equipment comes with it. And for the price I know I can get other stuff which seems to be more respectable. Thank you for any input.

Good choices. BTW, you can find used Jets on eBay for under $60. They are simple, effective, and last forever. I own two pair and made the mistake of paying $100 for each set.

I've heard good things about the Mares X. The important thing about masks is fit for your face and low volume. Don't get fooled into buying masks with side window and purge valves though. It's all marketing. Your LDS will show you how to do a mask seal test to see if it fits your face properly.
