Hi there,

Here's a little bit about me in the obligatory intro post.

I did my first dive in Hawaii back in 2001 booked through the resort we were staying at and it was absolutely amazing! We entered from the beach and in a few minutes saw a bunch of wildlife, titles, fies, coral, etc. I loved it but at the time didn't have the money to get certified.

Jump to 2015, I was working in Kuwait and literally stumbled upon a divemaster starting up an OW class. I jumped on the chance and got certified in the Persian Gulf, which was....interesting. I did a couple of vacation dives after that in the Caribbean but then moved to the North East US, which is very different than the warm water dives I'd done. So I didn't do any more dives.

In 2022 post-covid we booked some vacations and one of my kids wanted to go diving. So I decided this was the time to actually start diving. I did a refresher dive with my LDS and went on some amazing dives with my kid in 2022 and 2023. Last year I got my AOW and have some dives booked for this year when things warm up.

So that's me.

Welcome to the forum! Hopefully you'll be able to get some good ones in this year.
Thanks.
My wife booked a Caribbean cruise with some friends who are also divers, so we should get a dive or 2 in there. Not exactly thrilled about doing it through the cruise line, but a dive is a dive.
Also, considering drysuit cert to extend my season.

You never know! I support the drysuit venture. It can be a bit of a learning curve but can help trim things out nicely when dialed in.

I was looking up the cost of the course over the weekend and at $500 I'll have to save up a bit :nomoney:

Did you also look up the cost of a drysuit? And dry-gloves, under suit garments, new fins, hood etc etc.

$500 for the course is the least of your $$$ worries.

lol...thanks, I think?
Right now I rent my gear so don't have to worry about buying the gear. But even renting is about twice as much for a drysuit.

My wife has always said I have expensive hobbies.....coming from the one booking cruises 🤷‍♂️

You really do not want to be renting a dry suit. Proper fit is of paramount importance. Especially if you're going to be diving in the NE. Start saving!
