I admit I didn't read all the comments here, and if this is a repeat, well, just treat it as another vote for that reason...

If you buy your BC and Reg set together, most LDS' will give you a deal - sometimes a pretty large deal. Why? Because technically they may not be able to discount a reg set (e.g. ScubaPro), but when you buy it with a BC, they've got wiggle room...

Price it out and see - it might be worth saving for an extra couple of months to get them as a package...

That's exactly what I heard too.

I agree. Buy as much equipment as you can at one time, you will "buy more and save" with discounts for buying so much. If you have to choose, like most people, and can't afford everything at once, get the regulator. As long as you can breath, you can survive if any other piece of equipment goes wrong. Use the time to rent different types of bcs (jacket, back-inflate, back plate and wings) and see what you want to buy. Having a good regulator set right may improve your bottom time slightly as well.

Is Aqualung Legend LX a good regulator compared to..... let's say...... MK25?
And is SeacSub's Pro 2000 a good BC compared to .... let's say.... Scubapro's Stabilizing Jacket? Replies needed......
