Are you looking to dive the 119s as singles or doubles? What kind of rig are you diving (bp/wing, jacket, back-inflate)?

Shaka Zulu does have a point...a single large, heavy steel tank, can cause a rolly feeling, but the 119s aren't that heavy. I only have ever noticed that type of behavior with a single LP104.

Soggy,
I'm looking to use the tanks during and after a transition in my diving. Right now I'm in a rear inflate jacket and would like to make the move to a BP and I think the DR Trek wing. I am diving singles and will be for a bit longer, but may go to doubles if I continue moving down the wreck path.

so who has them in stock and what are they asking?

I went through the same process and came to a slightly different conclusion. My choice came down to either the E8-119 or an HP 100. I decided on the HP 100 because of the greater availability of the HP 100 cylinders. Only one manufacturer makes the 119, Pressed Steel, and they are way behind in delivering all their cylinders. It's not like HP 100s are being thrown away, but they're more of them out there and more manufacturers. My LDS said they'd order two HP 100s, most likely from Faber, for me after the first of the year. For me it was all about availability.

Good luck,

Hey,

I looked into the HP 100s and can get a couple of Fabers ordered up around here. That's a nice thing too. I've just heard all the negative talk about the Fabers. I did like my LDS owners arguement for the Fabers, "its a tank, how much better can one be over the other?" There is a beauty to that logic.

Yea...beauty to the logic...too bad its wrong. All tanks have different charactistics...some work good in some situations..and not so good in others.

That LDS owners logic is the same logic that has lead me to own 3 different BC's...3 different drysuits....

If your are going to buy them...buy them for the right reasons..and not for the fact that they hold air and your LDS has them in stock.

I was looking at faber HP 100s way back when.

I'm extremely happy that I didn't buy them; as I'm not using any weight with my 130s, and the fabers are extremely negative. Be sure to do your homework if you are considering them. Singles they might work ok, but for doubles, they are too negative IMHO [and a few others I know that bought then sold after diving them].

Thanks for the input on the Fabers. I was totally sold on the Pressed Steel HP 100s until I discovered a little more about the factory stopping production(a lost lease, I think) and all the back orders plus the increased demand for their cylinders. The ideal would be a Pressed Steel HP 100 and I can wait, I just can't wait forever. Price is also a consideration. The E8-119s were just too scarce to put on my buying list. You know...low supply + high demand = increased consumer cost. The LDS mentioned Faber, but he said there were other(unnamed) manufacturers that would be taking orders after Jan 1st. Maybe I'll hang in there for a couple Presseed Steel HP 100s. Any additional drawbacks on the Fabers? what about the Pressed Steels? I doubt that I'll be doubling up, but it would be nice to have that option in the future.

I hear ya ,and have heard and considered that before, hence my desire for the 119s or 100s. I just liked the simplicity behind it.

I am not looking to purchase before the end of the year. Has anyone found and purchased these tanks? How far ahead should an order go in? Are there going to be other companies producing the same tanks?
Thanks,
