I have definitely tried standing up with the bungee still on. I felt so embarrassed. The sad thing is...I will probably do it again.

More:

Don't eat spicy or greasy food before a dive.

30% chance of rain means that it's going to rain on you.

Keys dive operators would rather tear their arms off before they'd refund your money.

Never hurry to get in the water, you will forget something.

Take twice as much air/gas as you think you'll need.

Never be the last back on the boat.

Hydrate, foot cramps are a bitch.

Divers from the Northwest have greater access to computers than the rest of the country.

Shut up about other divers' equipment, you ain't Jacques Cousteau.

Read old dive manuals, some skills once taught are now not.

Get your instruction from the instructor that wrote the manual for the course you're taking.

Practice rescue skills, both underwater and at the surface.

Don't be cheap about diving, if you lack money, get a better job.

:rofl3: You are not kidding.

Great thread! My contribution...

Well-fitting booties are massively underrated

"Danglies" can and will drop you in the manure one day

Learn how to fix a loose tank band - they will slip, and it inevitably happens to the most panic-prone diver

Peeing in your wetsuit can feel divine

Computers - RTFM!!!!

When it comes to divers' competence, appearance can be very deceptive.

hmm...things I learned in my first 20 dives.

Eels are awesome. Big eels and even more awesome!

Sharks aren't out to kill you.

After OW you know everything about diving. 10 dives later, you question whether you know anything at all.

Night dives ROCK!!

Nitrogen narcosis sucks!

I don't care how good your air consumption is: the little blonde girl will do the same dive and use half the gas.

Peace,
Greg

1 thing I still remember:

Don't look to far to the left, you might pull the mouthpiece off and breathing water...

Things I learned in my first twenty dives: I love diving, I have a lot to learn.i
Things I learned in the next 500 dives: I love diving, I have a lot to learn, if I swim slowly I see more stuff.

In may past life I was either a carp or a turtle (upside down, that is).

I can cuss through my reg and hear myself, but my daughter cannot tell I am cussing like a sailor or read my lips. :shakehead:

after OW, I know just enough to be dangerous.

There is so much more to learn

I hate those hose clips and octo holders.

After you remove your console from said clip, it takes you and your buddy (12 yr old daughter) to put it back and 5 min of wasted time and much cussing.

Put console on retractable clip across chest.

Longer hair is over rated. It gets in mask, drives inst. crazy (he kept trying to get our hair out of the way), tying it up did not help. I just cut it after class. Hood should fix this.

Beyond the basic pre-dive buddy check, take turns checking each others tank and 1st stage connection for any leaks before the dive.

Read, read and read some more. There is so much to learn.

Make sure new mask is cleaned well before OW checkout dives. No amount of defogger can fix this.

Shop around for good LDS, they are not created equal.

I'll chime in with another food thing...
Don't eat rye bread before a boat ride if you get even remotely sea-sick. Bad things, man.

Don't take anyone's word as gospel. Do your own research and decide for yourself what works for you.
