I generally try and carry my fold up snorkel in a pocket or somewhere accessible however I have never used a snorkel in the course of diving, well there was that one time early on in my diving, where I still had it attached to my mask. I jumped in with it in my mouth, it doesn't work affectively after about a foot of depth. Quite honestly with double 130's on my back I have a pretty hard time getting on my stomach to swim anyhow.
