Was planning to get a Perdix AI as my primary DC but now it's going to be a tough decision.

I'm not sure I agree with the battery life. It looks like they are trying to go for the diver that wants a watch that can be worn every day. A person using the DC as a watch will wear on the battery much more than an "low count diver". I am hoping that they have matched the Samsung watch battery life.

I wear my Suunto Stinger as an everyday watch. Battery change once a year or so. I'm good with that.

Well unless it was a big cushy blanket, filled with air, then it may be similar. Apart from that, it doesn't look like the strap would fit around a drysuit sleeve and even if it did, the unit would so low and squished into the suit, I still think it would be difficult to access and press the buttons.

It's interesting that their slogan for this is "The Watch That Transforms You." To me, that suggests it's meant to be more of a fashion accessory than a dive computer. It would be neato though for a warm-water-and-no-gloves kinda place though...

The marketing company did a great job producing the Teric video. However, they took some liberties in showing the skydiving as part of demonstrating the watch functionality of the Teric.

The Teric is first and foremost a dive computer. It draws on Shearwater's heritage in technical diving to be a powerful tool for all types of diving. It also can function as a daily wear watch. There are no plans for any skydiving modes or models, and I am sorry if the video appeared misleading.

Thanks Tyler. I thought I was going to be able to go from a skydive, right into scuba. Technology wise, could the pressure sensor also work as an altimeter? Like a Suunto?

Hi Macan,

The GF99 value tells you your gradient factor at the current instant and depth. So say you are at a 20ft/6m deco stop, you might look at the GF99 and see a value like 30%. This means the leading tissue, at the current ambient pressure (depth), is 30% of the way between ambient pressure and Buhlmann's original M-value limit. However, as you ascend, the ambient pressure will decrease, so your tissue tension supersaturation will rise with respect to ambient pressure. The Surface GF value can help you estimate by how much.

The Surface GF value tells you what your gradient factor would be at the surface if you were to instantly ascend there. So at the same instant as the example above, the Surface GF might be 120%, indicating there would be considerable decompression sickness risk in ascending immediately to the surface.The decompression stops will be clear once the Surface GF value falls to below the High GF conservatism setting.

The Surface GF value could be used as an estimate of risk in various situations. For example, an operational risk might have you wanting to get out of the water more quickly, so the Surface GF value would give some indication of the level of risk you would be undertaking by surfacing immediately. Conversely, it could be used to monitor the surface GF until it falls to some level below the planned GF High, if you felt extra decompression conservatism was warranted.

My wife has used a Petrel and liked it except for the form factor being too large. The Perdix is smaller but I think the Teric might better suited to her preferences.

My only comment regarding dive watches, is that in general they are ill suited to be worn above water except for the 15 minutes before they go below water.
