Anyone up for a trip with Divers Unlimited to the "Reef" this Saturday? Cost is 45 dollars for a 2 tank trip starting at 8am from D. Unltd in VA Beach.

Sorry for being unversed in the Viginia sites, but is this also known as Tower Reef?

I could be interested, though I'd have to drive down from DC.

That's the one. It should be a pretty good dive. Kiptopeke low tide is at 0924, so the visability should start pretty good and get better as the day goes on. Bottom temps have been about 58F and the weather guessers are calling for a good day (as I type this).

I look forward to seeing you.

Trust Don - he's the skipper of the boat!

I'm waiting for a call back from Kim at the shop about whether the trip will run. Seems like they have low numbers and someone interested in chartering the boat. I'll know later today. If not Lynnhaven is running a similar trip.

Well seems like Divers Unlimited couldn't pull it off and decide whether to charter the boat or run the trip. Oh well...Lynnhaven is offering a trip to the Santore leaving from Rudee Inlet at 7am. Cost is $45 for a 2 tank dive. They require mandatory dive insurance (not sure if you have to be advanced or not). If anyone wants to join me...you know where to send an email!

HI
I just wanted to see what was going on with you. And see your calling all divers-agian. Anyways, my Dan insurance has lapsed so I can't go. I did not get me renewal notice due to change in address, but I'm working to fix that ASAP.

Well the conditions were crap! Around the coast it was nice and smooth, on the way out there were a few more waves, by the time we got to the tower (so much for the stated trip to the Santore - it seems Santore was never a destination) the boat was dropping underneath us and we were dropping on to it. Not so pleasant. So we came back and all got credit for our next trip. Only complaint (apart form not being able to dive) was the boat's helmsman (or it a coxswain?) hadn't attended the class called "When the sea is rough slow down a bit and it won't be quite so violent." But otherwise it seemed a decent op.

I saw the weather forecast and was not too upset about not going.

When the weather kicks, the captain has to make a choice, get the seasick people to land a little quicker or wallow out there and get more people puking. No matter what he chooses, about a third of the passengers will call him an idiot. You get used to it and make a mental note of which dive bag gets the squid juice dripped on it. ;)

He also might have seen some heavier weather on the way and tried to beat it to port. I rarely explain everything I do out there since many people will argue with me on some decisions.

Well maybe when Kim gets her act together I can take a ride with you Don. I've tried diving with DU twice now, third time lucky?

We will give it a heck of a shot. The shop is changing ownership right now, so I am still sounding out the new owner on what he wants to do to get things rolling.
