Why not get a real octopus? A simple question, an Air2 is an inflato/octo, not an octopus

Get her a real regulator...A simple comment an Air2 is an inflator/octo, not a regulator

I think the air2 is a "solution" to a non-existent problem. I would not dive with one and would be hesitant to dive with someone that had one. He said “I think” therefore, its not narrow minded

IMO - Air2's are a tax on the gullible. ...Well, that’s just a funny comment, but that Our Boogie!!!

None of these comments are narrow minded, just questions and comments from people with opinions

I would not ... ever ... call someone "gullible" for purchasing equipment ... even if it were something I'd never consider purchasing. Instead I'd try to find a logical, constructive way of explaining to them why I didn't think it was a good choice.

I see...this has nothing to do with DIR/not DIR, it has to do with being a jerk or not being a jerk. Well, there are plenty of non-DIR jerks on the board, too! :)

EDIT: No, boogie, I don't think you're a jerk ;)

I'd prefer not to get into name-calling ... and to be upfront, I don't think badly of the guy who posted the comments I used in my examples.

Far from it ... I think he's very knowledgeable. But I think there's more constructive ways to say things sometimes. And I think your choice of how to say things has a huge impact on how it's received by others.

As to how it relates to DIR/non-DIR ... it's a perception issue. We've had the discussion before about how a few vocal people can color the perception of an entire, larger group. That's what I see at the heart of much of the past 55 pages of discussion.

Aint no-one gonna argue that!

Soggy:
It's an acronym and a marketing slogan. Get over it. Last time I checked, Cheeze-Whiz doesn't have urine in it, either.

I wouldn't really be too sure about that actually.... that sickly yellow color...

Ever spent a lot of time in the desert?

Those posts don't sound very narrow minded to me. They sound like solid advice being given to someone who might not understand the inherent limitations of such a device.

I see you list GUE in your profile. Thanks for helping make my point.

I was reading that and thought - Wow - there's someone I can agree with. ;)

The Air2 thing really gets me, I'll admit it. I honestly and with all good intentions just CANNOT see how it would be considered superior to the alternatives, and when it comes to something as vitally important as life support gear, I can't understand why people are willing to take shortcuts with their gear like that.

Furthermore, the only people I see willing to defend them on an ongoing basis are people who have already bought one... which leads me to assume (and yes, I know what assume means) that they are being defensive about a gear choice they know deep down inside is inferior.

So - in retrospect - I don't really care if people like my style or not. You don't see me haranguing people on drysuit selection or mask choice or tank selection. But Air2's really bother me.

Oh - and by the way, Android - if the term "Do it Right" bothers you so much, I can only assume you also don't dive with anything called "Dive-Rite?"
