Jamaica was great and now I know the meaning of things like:

1. current
2. resort diver
3. cattle boat
4. clear viz
5. swim through
6. insta-buddy

It also gave me a great appreciation for the time and effort my instructor Steven at AWBA put into my OW training. Thanks to his instruction and the enthusiasm he put into teaching us neophytes I was well prepared for diving in an ocean. The colors and stuff down there is incredible! I have a long way to go as a diver but now I have a good idea of what I need to work on the most (air consumption and proficient buoyancy control) and I can't wait to get back in the water, any water.

Our deepest dives were the morning dives. Went to 62' and got to swim through the cockpit of a sunken Cessna, a few arches, and saw tons of beautiful stuff, although I have no clue what most of it was. In the quarry I recognize the fish cause I've caught, cleaned and eaten all of them. In the ocean there was so many and so colorful, I guess I need a book to figure them out. I felt comfortable enough with my skills to take some pictures towards the end of the trip. Most are clear but the colors didn't come through because I was paranoid about getting too close to the reef so I took pictures from too far away. I put them in my gallery and would appreciate any tips on how to improve on my underwater photography skills. Longest dive was 41 minutes. Most dives were in the neighborhood of 30 minutes. Shortest dive was 11 minutes cause one of the DMs had a hose blowout. He was impressed that I was quick on the scene offering my air (he didn't need it) and complimented my instructor on teaching me properly when we surfaced to change out his regs for a spare set. Again Kudos to the staff at AWBA for excellent instruction. I can't wait to go somewhere else once I get some more dives logged and improve my skills and technique. After I get my AOW I'm thinking maybe Coz or Belize.

While I understand now why everyone said the diving in Jamaica was tame, it was a great learning experience for my level. I will say that the surface intervals In Negril will be hard to beat!

Welcome to the BIG BLUE!!!! The only bad thing is the salt! LOL! That is why I dive the springs after the ocean dive if I can! Glad you had the best time, and welcome to the new addiction! It's worse than CRACK!

We dive 2 quarries in Belgium one day a year. Always great fun.

We dive the quarries to practice and learn so we can enjoy the ocean more. Plus the quarries are a lot closer.

I fear Cozumel ruined quarries for me....somehow diving to 90 ft and looking up and seeing the surface of the water in crystal clarity with air and water temps in the 80's in February and sea life in vibrant colors all around you while floating in a gentle current and getting an hour dive on air with an AL80 because of the lack of effort is just kinda a kill joy for 10ft vis with water and air temps in the 40's in February. :D

sounds nice..

where did you stay in Negril?

I actually found the diving in Negril to be much nicer that people give it credit for.

We had a DM that had a BC blowout on our dive. They definately use their equipment till it falls apart.
