Oh, when I said I kept my money in separate places, West End is not the only time that I have had to do that (or felt that I had to do that.

I would probably keep a decent sum in the safe and hope for the best.

The rest I have in envelopes that I'd pin behind pictures in the room. Behind d the headboard others in my locked suitcases stuffed in dirty laundry, whatever.

In all of my travels, the only time that I've ever had anything stolen from me was when I was robbed on the beach, at about 7 pm, in front of a restaurant full of people and lots of others walking the beach too, as it was more of a large sidewalk. It wasn't my fault because it was a crime but had I been thinking properly and prepared how I had my purse stashed instead of holding it in my hand, it probably wouldn't have happened. <-- this event did not occur on Roatan.

Ive looked at Lily Pond, not super appealing on the outside. But good it sounds like. Will check it out!
If I remember I will enquire about the new owners at WED. And Yes!! I can stagger to the room from Sundowners! By the way, we stayed at the Beach House last time, right before they tore into it. If you didnt already know, they tore some of it down to foundation and did a fantastic remodel. My dive buddy is staying there this trip, Im really looking forward to seeing it. Looks great on IG!

Yes, in our travels I only carry on my person what I need for only what Im doing right then. So in case that happens the loss is minimal.

Yes, I've considered that could happen but then, I usually only have enough money with me to cover the trip, so by the time I'm onto my last bundle, it's almost time to go home.

Well, some news. We decided to trust the room safe. We have been here 5 days. We did money inventory tonight from the safe as it seemed unreasonably thinner. We are missing $900 from the safe. We had asked for no maid service until today, the people next to us say they have seem maids at our room numerous times, but they really didn't pay much attention. At any rate, someone has access to the master key and has been slowly tapping out cash. The reason we know is because my spouse keeps a daily ledger of our cash expenditures every day on every item, no matter how small.
We just found out tonight, have messaged the hotel manager, and will talk to her in the morning. Trouble is with no proof of who took it the cash is just gone. We would ask to be refunded the rest of our stay and relocate, but literally everything is booked.
So..beware. The room safes are not safe at the Posada Arco Iris! This lesson is on me.

Ok update. Over the last several days we have been going back and forth with hotel manager, she was having difficulty believing that someone in her staff would steal. She was talking with the owner. This morning she told us there was nothing they would do for us. Then when we came back after diving this afternoon, she called us in and told us they had agreed to reduce our room rate and gave us $250 cash back. Not $900, but a nice move towards us, a gesture of good will. Of course I accepted it, and hugged her. She was relieved and happy. I feel she did the best she could for us. It was not so much about the money, as it was loss of trust. A difficult situation with no proof for us, sticky for them. I feel so much better about staying here. This is a long time family business, and they tried to find middle ground. We really appreciate that. Props to Karolina the manager!

I've often thought about getting a cheap mini motion activated cam for when I travel, just to add another level of protection - or at least accountability. If nothing else, I'd throw it in the safe for when I'm traveling with a bit of cash. I've had something similar happen at a casino hotel. Unfortunately, no hard proof.
