I drove by Sand Pit and Kilowatt lakes today.

Kilowatt is a mud hole. I'm not sure I would jump in it if I were on fire.

The Sand Pit, however, deserves a closer look. It has been years since I have been to Heber Springs, but if my memory serves, this lake looks comparable in terms of turbidity. I could see several feet down into it in the 5pm sun. Considering that the recent rains have most likely made it much worse than normal, I may take another look when it's been dryer. It's fairly large - as large as a lot of quarries that many people dive, but I could not get a sense of the depth. There is a trimmed grassy path that leads around it that is large enough for a car and there is no gate. It's clearly not public land. There were signs posted. One said 'No Tresp[faded]' and the other said '[faded]spassing!'. Who knows that they are supposed to say.;) The path around the lake is actually quite scenic and reminiscent of what you find at Shelby Farms. In any case, it would be a desperate mans dive at best. If it clears up after a couple weeks of little rain, it might be worth a closer look. Any one else want to take on Mr. Martini's challenge?

I'm shooting off some emails to figure out who is the owner of Sand Pit lake. If theres a No Trespassing sign, somebody put it up.

I live in the Tupelo, MS area and have dove Bay Springs. I just did a simple recon dive to see if it was worth diving. Didn't get deeper than 10' where I was, but this is a huge lake and I know it gets a lot deeper. Visibility was about 5'. I could look back and barely make out my fins. I know a guy who dove it and said we went down to about 70' and it was pitch black.

It wasn't bad enough that I wouldn't dive it again, it's only about 40 minutes from me.

Alright, Bay springs is off the list then.

I've had no luck figuring out who owns the land sand pit lake is on to figure out who's no-trespassing sign it is.

Martha's Quarry in Nashville is the closest "diveable" place I know of. Born and raised in Willie World.

The "Moulton Quarry" just west of Moulton, AL is prob about 50-60 miles closer to Memphis than Lebanon TN is.... (where Marthas is located).

But Marthas offers a lot of things that most quarries don't . THey have some really cool buildings and rock crusher equipment to dive around.
