I am curious if that kind of long fins have pros and cons for general scuba use. I see them frequently used by free divers and spear-fish hunters.

What are pro and cons to them?

Here is an example of the kind of fins I am talking about:

Pros: swim very fast/against current.

Cons: Buggers to travel with, buggers to put on in a small boat, buggers to manouveur around delicate reef, buggers to transport on/off boats, buggers to buy $$ etc.

Pro?/Con? You get to kick a lot of people in the head.

I like them :)

If you spend the majority of your scuba dives travelling fast in a straight line.... go for it.

They are commonly used in high current areas like the Florida Gold Coast.

Just don't do a giant stride in them as they will break just in front of the foot pocket. Backroll in or do a backwards giant stride. They work great other than that.
